Premier League Clubs To Target A Number Of Newcastle Players

Newcastle have been doing extremely well this season on all levels, even though we have just come off a three game losing streak.

The players Rafa brought in last summer such as Matt Ritchie, Ciaran Clark, Dwight Gayle and Isaac Hayden among others, have all improved under the coaching of the top-class Newcastle manager.

Jamaal Lascelles is already reported to be attracting the interest of both Liverpool and Chelsea and Alan Pardew wants to sign Paul Dummett for Crystal Palace, but that would hardly be a step-up for the local lad.

Rafa Benitez – a target of West Ham United

And West Ham are even said to be lining up Rafa Benitez as their new manager if current Croatian manager Slaven Bilic cannot turn things around soon at the east London club.

January is a time when clubs struggling against relegation think of both sacking their managers and signing new players in an attempt to stay in the big money of the Premier League.

So with Newcastle having players who have Premier League experience it would  not be too much of a surprise if clubs come after a number of our players next month.

Two of them who are potentially in danger of leaving are Vurnon Anita and Yoan Gouffran, since they are free agents in the summer and clubs can talk to them next month.

But there was good news over the weekend that Rafa wants to keep them both at Newcastle past the summer and the club are currently in discussions with their agents.

Rafa Benitez is unlikely to let any of his top players leave next month, because his number one goal is to build a top team on Tyneside that can challenge for a trophy.

As well as having Newcastle challenge in the top six of the Premier League and getting back into Europe,  Rafa’s number one target – after promotion this season – is to win a trophy for Newcastle.

The only real target this season is promotion of course – that’s absolutely vital.

If Rafa could win a trophy for us – that would be the first time in over 47 years.

That’s just one of the things that motivates him every day at Newcastle.

But don’t be surprised if a number of our players are real transfer targets for Premier League clubs next month and maybe some silly bids are even made for them.

Just like we bid £25M last January for striker Saido Berahino of West Brom.

I’m sure Ed has a light that tells him I’m about to post 🙂

I would imagine players like Lascelles will surely stick around until at least the Summer. If, God forbid, we miss out on promotion then they would consider such a move or am I being too naïve?

Can’t see anybody significant leaving to be honest. Mitrovic and Tiote maybe, but both to be replaced if they do.

I reckon Rafa would probably have Murphy ahead of Mitrovic in the pecking order if he didn’t have his fitness issues.

I doubt the club would be willing to let too many go during the season with promotion on the cards, there are of course a few expendables that we could replace fairly easily but most of our business will be done as early as possible in the summer

He already tried that with the team he put out against Blackburn Rovers, and bang went the points cushion, as momentum was lost. Stuff the cups, there are 46 critical games to prioritise first. Maybe next season when there are 8 less?

Anyone who thinks any current toon player would leave and join any premiership team other than the “top4/5” are delusional…
