With Brighton beating Blackburn Rovers last night 3-2 away from home, Chris Hughton’s team have now gone 15 league games without defeat since they were beaten 2-0 at Newcastle and then 2-0 at home to Brentford in successive games.
In those 15 games they have only 4 draws so a total of 37 points from a possible 45 and the Seagulls are now two points ahead of Newcastle on 45 points from their 21 games.
Chris Hughton – Brighton on 15 game unbeaten streak
If Newcastle can win at Wigan tonight we will go back to the top of the league on 46 points and we will be back to 9 points above third placed Reading who lost 2-0 at Leeds United last night.
After the game last night the former Newcastle manager who got us promoted seven years ago was asked if Newcastle were the team who would go straight back up to the Premier League this season.
This is what Chris said as reported in the Guardian:
“I can understand it and I would probably say the same thing about Newcastle,”
“It’s because of the squad they’ve got, I’ve not seen a squad as strong as what they’ve got.”
“I’m reasonably sure if we or anybody else can stay close to them, they will put themselves in a very good position.”
It could be that Newcastle and Brighton are the two teams who start to pull away at the top – but nothing is ever certain in this league and all we have to do is keep winning games.
It’s easy really.
Here’s the standings going into our game at the DW Stadium tonight where we just have to get all 3 points.
