Clark – This Is What Dwight Does Best

Ciaran Clark did the interviewing duties yesterday for the match at Wigan tonight and he talked about various things.

One of his interesting comments was when he was talking about Dwight Gayle, who has 16 Championship goals in just 16 appearances for Newcastle and has been one of the big stars of the side so far this season.

Dwight Gayle after scoring sensational winner against Norwich

One of the things Ciaran mentioned was that Dwight is not scared to shoot and whereas some strikers over-elaborate when a chance presents itself – not Dwight – who gets his shot off quickly.

This is what Ciaran said about the Newcastle number 9:

“We’ve got a number of strikers that can play and all pose different threats.”  “Dwight’s movement is top-notch, he finds space and he’s really clever.”

“I’ve noticed that in training as the other defenders have – when he gets it in front of goal he isn’t afraid to pull the trigger and he’ll keep getting chances.”

“If he doesn’t score it doesn’t affect him. He’ll keep going and going. And eventually he will bang one in.”

“He’s been on fire this season and hopefully he can keep going.”

One case we can remember when Dwight got in a quick shot was after we had just drawn level at 3-3 with Norwich after five minutes of stoppage time at St. James’ Park though a goal from Yoan Gouffran.

After the resulting kickoff and with time rapidly running out Jonjo Shelvey sent the ball high upfield to Dwight just outside the penalty area.

Dwight controlled the ball quickly and with four Norwich defenders around him he got a shot off and in it went for what was truly a sensational winning goal.

That was a night to remember at St. James’ Park for sure.

Let’s hope Dwight can get a goal for us tonight at the DW Stadium where another win will send us back to the top of the Championship.
