Rafa Reveals What He Tells Both Diame And Gayle

Rafa Benitez seems to be a big believer in his players giving 100% and working hard in every single training session.

If they do that then he is not surprised when they do well in games, because they have put the work in that allows that.

During his interviews yesterday Rafa talked about Mo Diame and the fact that he has been working hard ever since he came to Newcastle in the summer.

Mo Diame – not asleep anymore?

And he has not been sleeping as Mo famously said during an interview a few weeks ago and that he needed to wake up quickly.

Rafa tried to clear up yesterday what he had said about Mo’s comment at that time:

“When I said that he was too honest when he was criticizing himself, I wanted to say he was working very hard. “

“For a player, what you are expecting is for him to work hard. After, you play well.”  “He was working very hard for the team and doing what he has to do.”

“The last game, he did the same, but he was much better in the final pass or decisions.”

“That was really positive. In terms of the attitude, I was happy with that.”

“I will say the same to Dwight Gayle. I don’t say to Dwight ‘you have to score goals’.”

“No, you have to give 100% and after you will score goals. With Diame, it’s the same.”

Rafa also said that both Jack Colback and Grant Hanley will not be available for the game tonight through injury, although Ayoze Perez is in the squad.

We included Ayoze in our best guess of the side Rafa will start tonight:

Darlow
Yedlin Lascelles (c) Clark Lazaar
Hayden Shelvey
Atsu Perez Gouffran
Gayle

What would your side be for tonight?

    Darlow
    Anita
    Lascelles
    Clark
    Dummett
    Hayden
    Shelvey
    Ritchie
    Gouffran
    Diame
    Gayle

    No brainer really

However if the club feel strongly that Shelvey may miss a few games Rafa may be thinking about his mooted replacement getting some game time in that role.
In which case at some stage Atsu would play and Ritchie would shuffle infield.
The headache Rafa has is Atsu disappearing to Africa for some weeks in January.

If Ritchie does take Shelvey’s place and Atsu is off to Africa, I could see Yedlin replacing Ritchie on the wing.
