This Young Playmaker Could Be Top Signing In January

With Mo Diame coming into some form over the last few games and Jonjo Shelvey producing consistently good displays in the middle of the park, Newcastle have looked a good team over the last couple of games.

But it could all change very soon.

Mo Diame will be off to the African Cup of Nations in early January and the Chronicle reported yesterday there was not much hope inside Newcastle that Jonjo can do well next week at his personal hearing for his FA misconduct charge.

19 year-old Anderlecht play-make Youri Tielemans

The club are said to be expecting at least a five match ban, so the team will be robbed of some creativity after Saturday’s game at Burton Albion.

Jonjo could start his suspension next week.

Rafa Benitez had said he has identified positions he would like to strengthen in January and central midfield is almost certain to be one of those, where he will look to add more creativity to the side.

One player we have been consistently linked with this season is 19 year-old Anderlecht play-maker Youri Tielemans, who is one of the best young players in Europe right now.

Newcastle have already done business with Anderlecht for both Chancel Mbemba and Aleksandar Mitrovic fairly recently so those lines of communication should be well oiled.

There are some big clubs after Youri, but that’s going to be true with most of Newcastle’s targets in January and in the summer as Rafa goes after some real class to (vastly) improve the quality of the Newcastle squad.

We wouldn’t be too surprised if Youri is a big target of Newcastle’s next month and he can come in and contribute in the middle of the park for Newcastle.

Tielemans has a Belgian father and a mother of Congolese descent and is the youngest Belgian player ever to play in the UEFA Champions League.

He made his Champions League debut at the age of 16 in October, 2013 and he has one cap for the full Belgium side after playing 16 times with 6 goals for the Belgium U21 side.

This season he has made 23 appearances for the Belgian giants and scored a good 10 goals.

He is the kind of top young player we expect Rafa Benitez will try to sign to further strengthen the Newcastle squad.

What do you think?

Personally I was hoping that Tiote might get a chance to shine, assuming he doesn’t get picked for his country.

I thought he’d do well in the Championship.

I see the Old Geordie Geezer is back online, this time having a swipe at the Chronicle

I see the Old Geordie Geezer is doing Youtube now

Youri would be a superb signing and just what we need.

Unfortunately he’s destined for bigger and better things than we can offer him AT THE MOMENT. I just hope Rafa pulls out all the stops and gets going on the charm offensive to get the lad on board.
    Help us Obi-Benitez, you’re our only hope…

    He’d be a cracking signing.

Ok, you’ve talked me into it Hibbit. I’ll allow myself a wee dram of the local drop, seeing it’s Christmas and just to be social. Be rude not too.
