Rafa Benitez Hints At New Winger Coming In

Newcastle will give Rafa Benitez as much money as he thinks he needs to bring in new players to strengthen the Newcastle squad for the rest of this season and for next season too.

Newcastle have plenty of money in the coffers after making a huge profit of £31M in the summer – so much for buying our way back to the Premier League.

Rafa has already said he has identified the positions he wants to strengthen for the run-in to the Championship season.

Rafa Benitez wants to strengthen Newcastle squad

And while he doesn’t give much away he has hinted that maybe he wants another winger in the January transfer window.

This is what he said yesterday in the local press:

“We have one or two problems.”

“Rolando Aarons is a long-term problem.” “We need to find a player to balance the team.”

“Maybe we can manage, maybe we can bring someone in.”

There is speculation on Tyneside that he could make winger Christian Atsu’s loan move from Chelsea into a permanent signing next month – but that doesn’t bring in a new player.

Rolando Aarons is out until at least the end of the season and maybe a lot longer than that with the serious ACL injury he picked up in training.

So it looks like a winger could come in and we were linked only yesterday with being interested in 21 year-old Angers winger Nicolas Pepe, who has one cap for the Ivory Coast.

Newcastle have also been heavily linked with Daryl Horgan of Dundalk and the club have watched him a lot this season.

Daryl has said he would be delighted to join a massive club like Newcastle.

What do you think?

We will have two wingers, once Atsu goes to ACON, which leaves Anita as back up, or Yedlin, since Peres slots in at ten for Diame. ACON is horrendous. Play it in Minsk in July.

What’s happening with Lazaar? Can he not play both LB and LW?

Not that I don’t want Rafa adding to the squad in January, of course.

Well, adding to the squad in January, isn’t entirely great unless you get the same guy you’d buy in July. Lazaar would be a solution, but he’ll also be at ACON most likely. Will Rafa risk it? He might.

Why play someone out of position unless u have to? Plus in Jan Lazaar and Atsu will be away so that leaves us with just Gouffran and Ritchie…we could cope if we have to but we are more than capable of buying and itd be a risk

Lazaar has looked hopeless, along with Jesus. Hanley and Murphy never even on the bench. Tiote crocked. Pointless bringing in any more duffers in January!

Lazaar and Gamez have hardly figured yet, despite having excellent pedigrees. I imagine one or both will still contribute this season and beyond. Both classy, and perhaps not best suited to this league.

Lazaar has looked hopeless? Hes played twice so far 1 where he struggled and 1 where he looked good. Gamez was playing CL football for a very good last season but has been injured for us

And the other two are very much proven at this level….none of them are ‘duffers’ mate

to say they are all hopeless might be a bit strong considering most if not all have had injuries they may well have decent back end of the season…tiote does look like he has a long term injury problem,he may well just get a release,i dont know how much he’s actually playing at the minute or training but when he came on earlier this season he didnt look fit or mobile enough, granted it was his first game in a long time.

Yo & Jimmy…I had heard that he had played both positions a fair amount previously…mind, I suppose anyone who played under Pardew would have the same tag…doesn’t mean it worked well.

Was just wondering as I haven’t heard much on him really. Hadn’t put together that he’ll likely be away for ACON

For me we need at least a no 10 , a left winger and another midfielder to be complete the squad for the 2nd half of the season!

If Shelvey is suspended along with the AFCON players thats 6 players down for 5 or 6 games with a lot of them being attacking players we might struggle to break teams down

i’ve been disappointed in ritchie for a while now,for several weeks he seems to be grafting without shining, maybe im expecting to much….will never knock the work rate put in by him, but thought he would be creating more…but we are not even half way thru the season so maybe i should wait till the end of the season.

Need more caffeine! Must be the winter blues!
Hanley has been injured, so harsh!
    Jesus the same.
Murphy played really well in 1 game, but is going to be moved on if we go up.
Hazaar looked scared of a tackle, dodgy on the ball and I, personally, am not impressed! But he will probably turn out to be brilliant, now I’ve said that! Maybe I should go full out on a Mister Tuff moment and call anyone who disagrees, something!! I hoe the lad comes good and will happy to be proved wrong!

Ritchie looks about as good as Gouffran. Which isn’t good enough to start at a top half epl side. Both decent back ups though. Atsu I don’t think is epl quality.

Aye he played LM/LW in Serie A I think but hes played LB for us so thats where its aimed that he’ll play and so far we have been coping with the leagues on the wings so no need to get him learning two positions during the week unless he has to play there Id assume

Aye its easy to forget he’ll be away in Jan, Ive done it a few times

a few stories back it said rafa may make changes, with acon coming in a few games and with no disrespect to burton maybe rafa is thinkin of looking at players to fill acon players spaces,or use acon players now to save the players we will keep here….use mbemba instead of lascelles or clark, lazaar for dummet or goofy, atsu for ritchie or goofy…use the acon players now over the next few game to refresh the players who’ll still be here when acon players are gone.

On Murphy I think we could see more of him and less of Mitro moving on and the latter moved on in the Summer (if not Jan)

And I just disagree on Lazaar mate, I think hes being handled well by Rafa and will be a good player for us eventually

I banged the Robbie Brady drum all summer. I’m sure the respective positions and tajectories of the 2 clubs he’d be very keen now.

Talk of Villa wanting him for £10m. Should gazump them. Would add further grit, work-rate and quality delivery from the LW, something we haven’t had for an age.

Aye he was on the bench mate apparently Rafa and the coaches are at a loss with him not following instructions when on the pitch as well

Tbh I dont see him or Perez having much of a future with us beyond this season but Perez might get a shot playing as striker if in Jan we get a no10 in which might fire him into life

brady could well do a job at this level but for 10m…..could he do it at a higher level or would he need replacing which means that 10m would be wasted on a squad player, its a balancing act to get promoted, better the squad and have money available if promoted to strengthen again.

I think the old boat has been banging away at more or less full capacity under Rafa. I’m not sure he has a lot more coal to throw on the fire. At full throttle there isn’t a team in the league to touch us. Its really all about hoping it all keeps chugging along ’til we get there.

That is the big bone of contention.

FIFA falls over itself to accomodate African federations (Blatter’s power base was the 3rd world federations) so they are allowed to name huge squads which go to the competition well before the start.

Many of the players it’s known will never get near a playing eleven.

It’s a chance to avoid the European winter and maybe call home all while getting full pay from the parent club.

there was one game when mitro was running around like a bat out of hell chasing, hurrying and he might even of scored and i thought finally we can see what mitro’s about…putting the effort in,like something clicked and he got it,but then went back to normal….im starting to wonder myself, if its going to happen for him, still hoping……as for perez….he’s never going to be quick,he’s mobile, good movement, can see a pass or flick but he needs to bulk up and strengthen up alot….to easily bullied and knocked about.

Don’t see a problem with him at PL level. He’s been relegated twice, but standing out as a top performer in both sides, which indicates needing better players around him. I remember watching a lot of Hull matches when he was relegated with them, MoTM performances aplenty, just his wicked crosses and set-pieces not been converted by their donkey STs.

Like Shelvey and his passing, you look at Brady’s crossing ability and ask, how many in English football have that kind of consistent quality? Few.

I think playing here and under Rafa guidance would also bring out his best.

As for Perez I have no idea what happened to the lad when we signed him he looked like he could be the business and now when he should be looking one of the best players in the team he looks so poor

Unfortunately, Mitro, despite all his gab, is one that only turns up when he feels like it. It’s why Rafa is reluctant to use him, because even when he’s having an ‘on’ day, he is liable to switch off temporarily and compromise the shape of the team by not defending from the front.

Don’t often agree with WWSBRD, but like him I don’t see Mitro’s long-term future here.

His cult following will be dumbfounded I’m sure. In fact, it’s the traits that have gained him a cult following which hold him back. The naughty boy image, undisciplined and burst of passionate energy followed by a whole load of nothing.

Bit like Balotelli without the off-field problems.
