Rafa Praises Burton – It Was Difficult – They Were Pushing

Newcastle scraped home today in a very tough game at Burton Albion, but the Newcastle players battled all the way for what was another vital 3 points for us.

Goals from Dwight Gayle and Mohamed Diame had put us 2-1 up at half time at the Pirelli Stadium, but we then had to withstand a bit of an onslaught in the second half from the home side.

But Rafa has the defense well organized and the lads really concentrate these days when under pressure and we managed to keep a clean sheet in that second half and get the win – although it was close.

Rafa Benitez at the Pirelli Stadium this afternoon

Rafa had predicted such a game and he was right although our players expected it to be very tough and it was.

This is what Rafa Benitez said after the game:

“We said before it would be difficult.”

“We were working so hard in the second half to defend. We have to give credit to them because they were pushing.”

“I was pleased with the attitude of the players, the teamwork and the character they showed.”

“I prefer to be top of the table in May, but we’re in a good position and we have some time to prepare for the next game,”

After the game Nigel Burton manager Nigel Clough must have been pleased with the performance of his side, but he bemoaned some errors:

“There were a couple of errors that lead up to their goals, but, other than that, I thought we were fantastic.”

“We deserved at least a point today.”

Next up for Newcastle is a tough home game against Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day with the Owls in 6th place on 37 points, 12 points behind the Magpies.

we, in never check during the match, i just look at things like shots, possession, pass completion. then after the games check heat maps, player stats.

but it’s always better to watch the match and see it with your own eyes first, then back it up with data

Rafa definitely isn’t getting the most out of the squad, Houghton would have had this team winning three nil. In fact if Houghton was in charge of this team we wouldn’t have conceded all season and scored four every game, I think we should try a cheeky bid for a swapsies in January.

Jib, thanks for the input, already established I knew the score, but its nice to know you’re still an idiot (one I find inoffensive to be fair). Was anybody on the blog actually at the game? Or is everybody on here just another reclusive keyboard living with thier mum? Please somebody prove this theory wrong, I’m having a $h!t day, just witnessed one of my oldest mates marry a nightmare. If somebody could restore my faith in humanity that would be grand.

Good effort again from the players, under a different manager we probably would have lost that, but under a world class manager we won the game that could have been embarrassing, so glad Diame is showing what he can do.
