Christian Atsu held a press conference at the Benton Training ground yesterday before Rafa came on to meet the press.
Atsu was a key player for us when he came on for the last 20 minutes at Wigan on Wednesday night and scored the all important second goal to wrap up the 3 points and we expect the Ghanaian winger to start the game today at Burton.
That was Atsu’s third goal of the season and a very good one as he smashed the ball home with his left foot.
Christian Atsu after scoring on Wednesday night
This is what Christian said when asked about a potential permanent move to Newcastle next month as seen on nufcTV:
“Newcastle is a big club and I respect them.” “Right now I am concentrating on playing football.”
“It is their decision at the end of the season.”
“Rafa is a great coach and great team manager.” “I am very pleased to work with him.”
“He has given me a lot of confidence on the pitch and movement as a winger.” “With time I can improve more.”
“I have more time to prepare for the African Cup, I am concentrating on Newcastle.”
“I am very happy to score, it was very important because we were under pressure.” “I was most happy that the team won though.”
“I am really enjoying winning games.” “The city is nice and everything is working well.”
it’s obvious that Atsu would be delighted to get a permanent deal at Newcastle and he certainly wants one.
Rafa was also asked about Atsu’s status yesterday and he said he was very pleased with him but that it was too soon to talk about a permanent move – so we suppose that will have to wait until the summer.
But fans are keen on the winger and he certainly seems a talented player and we expect Rafa to eventually sign him up.
