How Newcastle Compare With Hughton’s Side Of 7 Years Ago

We’ll keep a running tally of how we are doing compared to Chris Hughton’s Championship winning side of seven years ago and at the moment we have exactly the same number of points after 22 games played – 49.

Chris got a fantastic 30 wins and 102 points back in 2010 to get us straight backup  and we are on track right now to get exactly that same 102 points if we can keep up this pace for the rest of the season.

Maybe with Rafa saying the team is continuing to learn how to play in this division we could do even better but it looks like something like 90 points could be good enough this season  to get an automatic promotion spot which is what we want.

Chris Hughton – with Championship trophy in May, 2010

And the sooner we can get that the better – to calm the nerves.

Bu it’s still all to play for and Rafa keeps everybody’s feet firmly on the ground, but he was pleased with the performance yesterday.

In his post-match interview on nufcTV he said the team’s mentality was quite good.

That’s something coming from Rafa, whose standards are sky-high.

I think, and hope, we can get to 107 and take the record back.

First things first though, let’s get promotion first.

IMO Chris was treated badly by the club after stepping into the breach and getting us straight back up.

A thoroughly decent chap who was shat on from a great height and despite all that has plied his trade with honesty and dignity throughout and is still doing a great job with Brighton despite an obvious lack of funds

Would I begin to compare him with Rafa? Absolutely not…Rafa plies his trade in a rarified atmosphere where there’s only maybe 15 managers breath the same air.

Would Hughton do a better job with the players Rafa has now. I very much doubt it.

Can houghton be regarded a better manager cos he’s 2nd in the league only 1 point behind us with no budget. No…he’s doing a great but he’s nowhere near as good Rafa.

Does Hughton deserve more accolades and respect because of the job he’s doing…Absolutely…but he ain’t no Rafa.

This whole page is like comparing bananas with kiwi fruit. It doesn’t serve a porpoise (sic),

I totally agree with your comment re Hughton being shit on by us and being honest and dignified throughout, and they compare well there, look at what happened at Real for example.
