Jonjo Shelvey will have his personal hearing on his FA misconduct charge sometime this week and if he is found guilty he will miss a minimum of five games.
Jonjo is accused of racially abusing Wolves player Saiss, who speaks only limited English, but one of his team-mates is said to have heard the term allegedly used by Shelvey and reported the incident immediately after the game to the referee.
Jonjo Shelvey and Rafa Benitez in training
The alleged outburst came after 87 minutes and near the end of the game which we surprisingly lost 2-0 to Wolves, after Vurnon Anita had been sent off.
Rafa Benitez was asked after the 2-1 win at Burton on Saturday about Jonjo Shelvey’s upcoming hearing and this is what he said as reported in the Chronicle:
“We know that he has the quality, and hopefully everything will be OK.”
“If you can see him [behind the scenes], he has a lot of friends around him.”
“Hopefully the situation will be fine and we can carry on playing football, that is what he has to do.”
We’ll have to keep our fingers crossed that Jonjo can win his case and to be fair to him he has always denied the charge and pleaded not guilty.
The club are fully supporting him in his appeal this week.
If he is found guilty these are the next five Newcastle games of the season which he will miss.
