Armstrong Loan Decision Not Unexpected – Acid Test In Summer

While Adam Armstrong scored goals galore on his loan spell at Coventry City last season with 20 goals in 40 appearances for Coventry in League One, the same is not true this season on loan at Barnsley in the Championship.

Adam has scored 3 goals in 15 total appearances for Barnsley and a few weeks ago we reported that not one of the players on loan through January would be recalled by Newcastle.

Newcastle have already decided that Armstrong will not be recalled by Newcastle in January according to the Chronicle and that’s hardly surprising.

Rafa Benitez already has trouble giving first team games to his players in the 27 man squad and only Rolando Aarons is not available for the side at the moment due to injury, with Jack Colback and Daryl Murphy now back in training.

It’s much better that Adam gets first team games on loan and we expect other players on a half season loan – Sammy Ameobi (Bolton), Haris Vukic (Bradford City) and Jamie Sterry (Coventry) not to be recalled when their loan moves expire on January 3rd.

The acid test for Adam Armstrong is whether Rafa will think he is ready to fight for a first team place next season when – if all goes well – we will be back in the Premier League.

Rafa will improve the quality of the squad in January and in the summer, so it’s not certain that Adam will be fighting next season for a first team place in the Newcastle squad.

Rafa could well send him out on loan again to get more experience.

Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic have no future at Newcastle and if they are not sold before their contracts run out in the summer they will become free agents.

Newcastle will still be due some compensation on them since both lads came through the Newcastle Academy.

Jamie Sterry will be like Adam and hope he can prove to Rafa Benitez that he should be in the Newcastle first team squad for next season.

What do you think?

It was reported at the time that Armstrong had signed a loan deal until January – I guess there must have also been a recall/extension clause as well.
However, not surprised if the latest news is correct. He is not yet experienced enough to step up.

I think if Shelveys hearing was at North Shields – Wolverhampton Wanderers would whinge
