Newcastle Captain On How The Preparation Paid Off

Jamaal Lascelles has had a great season for us so far and the young Newcastle captain turned in another excellent display at the heart of the Newcastle defense on Saturday afternoon, as we withstood the massive pressure in those final 20 minutes at the Pirelli Stadium to take another valuable 3 points.

It turns out that Rafa knew exactly how the game would go and the lads practiced on the physical side of things for the match – such as getting the second ball and that preparation paid off as the lads did really well and fought tooth and nail for the points.

Jamaal Lascelles – Newcastle captain

Class always counts in the end and the two goals were well taken by Dwight Gayle – who else? – and a second goal in as many games from the in-form and our Man of the Match – Mohamed Diame.

This is what Lascelles has said in the Chronicle today:

“It’s always nice for the fans. We had a little blip and a little kick up the backside from the manager.”

“We’re back on form now and hopefully we can carry that on.”  “It shows a lot of character to come to a place like this and win.”

“These boys work hard and their style of play is different. But they are really good at it. Not many teams will come here and win this season.”

“I think they have a good home record and they are strong and physical.” “We done really well against them so I am pleased for the boys.”

“They stuck to their game plan. They were massive on second balls, they were a physical team and they were very resilient.”

“All week we worked on what we could do to counter that and we did exactly that.”

“We were narrow and compact, and our holding midfielders were challenging for balls and the two centre-halves were getting the flick ons.”

“Our talent came through by the end with our goals.” “Credit to the boys but we now rest up and prepare for the next game.”

“It’s massive one, but to be honest every game at Newcastle is big.” “Away or home it’s big.”

“We will prepare for it in the same way we always do.”

“It will be in a professional manner and we’ll get ready for it.

The last two games at Burton and at Wigan were not easy and the lads have done really well to pick up maximum points.

Next up are Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day with a 7:45 pm kickoff time – and we must keep up the winning streak – currently 3 games – with another 3 points.

And here’s the latest from the Old Geordie Geezer.

Nice when the players finally start to get it, and it’s great for fans like me who have managed to grow their fingernails back this season.

Just learned that one of my mates has bought me a DAB radio for crimbo so I can listen to the match down the alottment on a Saturday……cool!
