Hughton – Newcastle Have Squad To Cope – They Have Options

Brighton are just one point behind Newcastle and they play on Tuesday at home to QPR and they will be expected to win the game against a side managed once again by Ian Holloway.

The former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton – now doing extremely well with the Seagulls – has been talking before the game and was asked whether the Magpies will miss Jonjo Shelvey.

Chris Hughton – Brighton manager

Jonjo has been suspended for five games following his personal hearing against the FA misconduct charge earlier this week with the result that the charge was proven and he was found guilty.

This is what Chris has said in the local Brighton newspaper – The Argus:

“With the squad they’ve got, it would probably be a bit disrespectful to speak about the impact it will have being without him.”

“They have got some really good players and really good options.”  “I don’t think it would be any different to having a player out injured for four or five games.”

“That’s what every club will have to do, be without players for a period of time, and it’s how they cope with it.”  “They certainly have the squad to cope.”

Jonjo will miss the next five games, but he returns for the game at home to Rotherham United on 21st January.

And thankfully he will be available for what should be a great game at Brighton on the following Saturday 28th January when we will take on the Seagulls.

That should be some game.

Here’s how we are doing this season compared with seven years ago when Chris was the very popular manager at Newcastle – a slightly better goal difference this season.

On a positive note, can’t wait for Sheffield Wednesday! Some great memories of them in the past, huge club! Loved it when we beat them 4-2 in the rain under the lights, Mathie getting a goal! Was at that one! The who can forget Shearer getting 5 for Sir Bob against them!
In a better world, the premier league would have less Burnleys, Bournemouths, Hulls and Middlesboros and would instead have Newcastle, Leeds, Villa and Sheffield Wednesday

Hopefully see Diame drop back? Looked a force in central midfield at his previous clubs! Think Perez coming in behind the striker still gives us a lot of strength! To be honest though, I’d love to see Diame drop into a 4 midfield and we go 4-4-2 with mitro or murphy providing the foil for Gayle! We’ve got decent fixtures coming up, and the midfield lads work hard enough to be a four, aswell, teams sit so deep that we practically play 4-4-2 with Diame up top!

    Jay,
I don’t think things will change that much but see Anita slot in to Shelveys position, he’s a great passer of the ball when he’s on form and was initially bought as Cabayes replacement.

Hayden and Diame will play together with Shelvey missing.
I honestly believe Rafa has been bigging up Diame the last few weeks with Shelvey ban in mind, gives him more confidence.

To be fair Diame has the ability to do the job no problem.

    In my opinion

Shelvey has never been the sharpest tool in the box and as for calling the other lad moroccan I’d be surprised if he even knew where Morocco was… and as we all know it’s very difficult to know whether anyone from North Africa is moroccan, or tunisian or whatever.

I think he’s been engaging in typical run of the mill footy banter, it’s gotten out of hand and because he’s not that bright Shelvey has over stepped the mark…but there’s no doubt in my mind he’s been stitched up here because it would appear not even the moroccan lad even heard the word moroccan…that allegedly was heard by another Wolves player but as I said before…how would Shelvey know where the lad was from..he’d been in the country 3 weeks and no-one knew anything about him?

smelly arab??? so if someone calls an english player a smelly englishman then thats racist yet smelly cnut is ok?

    It’s fcuking pathetic.

Please provide a link to substantiate your claim that Nice refused to offer HBA a new contract.

I know you cannot as you just made it up.
Apologise now for telling lies -in furtherance of this weird obsession you have of slagging off Toon favourites- Shearers another you slag off.

    Mr Tosser

    I didn’t say

“Nice refused to offer HBA a new contract.”

They offered him about 3 different contacts at the time.

    I actually said
“yet Nice wouldn’t renew his contract – why do you think that was”

my point being that Nice paid HbA for half a season when he couldn’t play for 3 clubs in the same season and the greedy little shibag spat in their eye and refused their terms to have his agent tout him to Barcelona and PSG.

@Mr Tuff – baffles me that anyone would slag Shearer off! The guys an actual legend! In a world when that word is used to often, in his case it’s apt! Think people forget the stature shearer had in world football when he chose to sign for us! It was the modern day equivalent of us signing Suarez now…
Personally reckon Geordie lads get it a bit harder than foreign players! From what I’ve seen in the past, remember a young lad Campbell getting talked about as if he was messi and then being slaughtered when he wasn’t good enough.. reckon Dummett gets it far worse than others too, he’s not great, but he’s not as bad as people make out!

wouldnt mind seeing HBA at number ten, while shelvey out and diame filling in for shelvey,we could always do with more creation and goal threat, cant see it happening but a loan would be interesting…just to see how/if rafa could get anything out of him.

Hard to judge shearers management… he had 8 games, and probably the worst attitude side I’ve ever seen… Geremi, Owen, Viduka amongst a bunch of others, remember that same team went a shipped 6 in preseason to leyton orient before the players were sold off. Can’t judge a guy on 8 games, it’s a shame Shearer isn’t actively involved, but then that match of the day job must be a nice pace of life and gives him time to do an awful lot of charity work he partakes in!

He was wanted by PSG/he wanted to go to PSG – so he signed for them. Simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You attempt to distract by introduction the FIFA 3 club rule -which had nowt to do with what was said originally.

(I love the way you answer to your name btw)

The conversation (which you were not part of) was about Ben Arfa’s dubious character avowed to by the many managers he has fallen out with (Unai Emery being the latest in a long list)
Nice helped him out when he was on the bones of his arse and he played around with their contract offers like the greedy little toe-rag he is .

isn’t HBA on like 120k per week? Saw he was on a list of top 10 paid players in france, got a feeling his wages were so high because he was a freebie…
wouldn’t have him back mind, crazily talented player but he hardly fits the rafa ethos

Remember mentioning this a few years ago, that I heard from people involved at the club that Ben Arfa only lasted as long as he did at NUFC because Pardew consistently turned a blind eye to all the things HBA would say and do in training, the guy apparently got away with murder with Pardew, but even he drew the line eventually!
He’s a very very talented player, but at some point he needs to look at himself and take ownership of his career. I’d hazard a guess that he is in the worlds top 5 most naturally gifted players, and for me he’s wasted every opportunity he’s had! A genius’ feet with a childs mind

Joey Barton has been charged with misconduct, with the Football Association claiming the midfielder placed 1,260 bets in the past 10 years.

The FA says he broke rules by betting on “football matches or competitions” between 26 March 2006 and 13 May 2016.

Just wonder what odds you can get on the FA making a mess of this case ?

Palace have now engaged two mangers rejected by Newcastle.
As Allardyce is not interested in attacking football what price now for Townsend leaving ?

Former England manager Sam Allardyce is set to be named as Crystal Palace manager, replacing Alan Pardew.

Pardew was sacked on Thursday with the club 17th in the Premier League after a run of one win in 11 games.

Allardyce travelled to Palace’s training ground on Friday to complete talks with chairman Steve Parish.

Wouldn’t touch Ben Arfa with a ten foot barge pole. Without doubt one of the most skillful and talented footballers to ever wear our shirt but he’s also one of the worst when it comes to attitude, application and workrate. With those traits he could have been right up there with Messi and Ronaldo, he certainly had the ability. Having a player who can change a game but only for a handful of games a season, and also one who can cause resentment in the dressing room but not pulling his weight just isn’t worth it. Team spirit is way more important.

interesting that according to the FA you can call HBA a smelly waste of space & talent but call him a french smelly waste of space and talent then they can fine you 100k and ban you for 5 weeks.

better be careful lads…we could all end up in big trouble if we’re not careful.

lochinvar – Reckon Allardyce will get on with Townesend! He tends to play wingers, reckon Palace have a perfect squad for his style, old fashioned defenders, big guy up front! Everywhere he’s been he’s accommodated 2 tricky players out wide, he had Khazri at sunderland and that guy does zero in workrate terms.
Allardyces boring defensive football usually comes from a 4-3-3 with defensive fullbacks and 3 defensive midfielders… with only the striker and 2 wingers attacking, but those 3 players don’t have to do as much defensively! Reckon he’ll probably get some form out of townesend and zaha

Impressed with the job Stam has done! Best team I’ve seen us play despite the result… dread to think what Reading would be capable of if stam could buy players with the better technical skills required for his tactis

Shelvey’s punishment is the kind that should come with hard evidence. Reading their findings it’s come as a result of mere conjecture. One set of players’ words versus another set. They’ve played safe because of the ‘racism’ aspect. Bunch of cowards.

Regarding earlier comments about Chinese backed takeovers nothing should surprise us in the future.

A village pub made famous by the visit of China’s President Xi Jinping and then Prime Minister David Cameron has been bought by a major Chinese firm.

They plan to open a themed pub chain of x 50 in China.

SinoFortone has bought The Plough at Cadsden, near Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire.
Mr Cameron took Mr Xi there during the state visit to the UK in October 2015.
SinoFortone is involved in the new London Paramount theme park development and the proposed Crossrail 2 route through London.

It is also involved in new metro systems in Abu Dhabi and Kuwait.

The two leaders visited The Plough, which is a few minutes away from the prime minister’s official countryside home at Chequers, for fish and chips supper and a pint.
