Newcastle have been linked with over 20 players for next month’s transfer window so far – and the latest is 20 year-old Frenchman Junior Samba, who plays for Chamois Niortais in the French second division.
Samba is a defensive midfielder who has been playing extremely well this season and he has caught the attention of a number of clubs – including Newcastle.
Clubs other than Newcastle interested in the 6ft tall midfielder include Southampton and French clubs – Angers, Nantes and Saint Etienne.
Junior Samba– Chamois Niortais midfielder
There’s not too much information about the lad on the Internet, but according to Wikipedia he started playing at his home town club Lyon in 2003, when he was 7 years old and moved to Macon in 2011 before arriving at his current club three years ago.
Samba made his debut for Chamois Niortais in September, 2014 against Dijon at the age of 18 years and 5 days.
He became the youngest player ever to start a professional match for the club.
Samba has played 16 times this season and since making his debut just over two years ago he has played 56 times with 2 goals.
While the lad has played defensive midfielder this season he can also play in other positions including right back and even as an attacking midfielder.
If Newcastle are really interested in the player there would seem no reason why we cannot bid for him next month, since young players with potential are exactly what Rafa Benitez wants to bring into the club.
However, Rafa has said today he is being put off by the asking the price for various players – including younger ones like Samba – and some of the prices being asked are ridiculously high.
Hopefully that’s not the case with Junior Samba and we can get him in for a reasonable fee.
Again, that’s if Rafa Benitez is really keen on him and if he did come in he would probably be part of Peter Beardsley’s U23 squad initially.
What do you think?

Comment #1I’m happy that the leaked interest from Newcastle is for development players and not for bigger targets. It’s never good when a potential transfer story is dragged through the media as it draws things out and other clubs come sniffing around.
The Snodgrass interest is the only part that I’d like to not be out in the open (if true) but if Rafa wants him here and can sway him, I’d love to have him. Aside from that, I have a feeling we’ll see an interesting couple through the door this window. After all, it would be an excellent Christmas present for the fans from Rafa 🙂
On that note – Merry Christmas all. I sincerely enjoy the blog (which isn’t dampened by the occasional bickering) and am thankful for the community that is here.

I apologise, I should have put a comma in between. It read as if I was saying you were denigrating SBR and Rafa, when I meant you were just denigrating Rafa. Not even you are that daft.
Next you’ll want me to apologise for you being a xenophobic, no nowt, pompous bore who never acknowledges when he’s wrong. I think I got enough commas in there this time. Oh well it is Christmas.

Don’t recall you ever apologising for anything either, like being incessantly obnoxious from your first day on here, so again the pot – kettle – black kicks in with you calling others out.
Look it’s Christmas and we’re top of the league.

We could be more top though if Rafa upped his game. Gayle should have at least 30 goals and only having the third best clean sheet record despite having a brand new defence is nothing short of a disgrace.

Well what a mealy mouthed apology that was.
I totally deny I have ever denigrated either SBR or Rafa, and by now you must know that, having had long enough to come up with any evidence.
Anyway, in the spirit of Christmas, I accept your apology, and wish you and yours a happy one.

Comment #6I think some teams are in for a right hiding when they visit SJP. It is widely acknowledged now that Alan Pardews good starts to a season followed by a second half collapse is because he has no plan B and other managers suss him out. In Rafa we have the polar opposite, all those teams like Fulham, Preston, Rotherham, Burton and Bristol who gave is tight games at their place will have been well and truly sussed by our UEFA Elite manager and a few of them are in for the biggest hidings of their lives.

Comment #9It may be my Australian blood talking but I would much rather Aaron Mooy from Huddersfield/Man City over Roberts.
In fact I would also rather Aussie Tom Rogic from Celtic, both great talent.
