3rd, 4th And 5th Placed Championship Clubs All Win

The 3rd and 4th placed clubs in the Championship – Reading and Huddersfield – both won their games earlier today to keep some pressure on Newcastle before we take on Sheffield Wednesday in just over two hours time in the evening game.

Reading beat Norwich 3-1 at home after Jonny Howson conceded a penalty (handball) after 67 minuters for Norwich and was sent off.

Reading manager Jaap Stam
Reading beat Norwich 3-1 at home

The score was 1-1 at the time, but Yann Kermorgant hit the bar with the penalty.

But within a minute Garath McCleary headed home from a free kick to put the home side ahead and then a stoppage time goal made it 3-1 to Reading.

Huddersfield came back with two goals in the second half after being 1-0 down at half time at home to Forest and that was the fourth win on the trot for the Terriers.

Leeds United are in 5th place and they easily won 4-1 at Preston North End.

Aston Villa continued their improved form under new manager Steve Bruce and beat Burton Albion 2-1 at home.

Here’s the standings before Newcastle kickoff tonight.

Norwich have completely collapsed from we beat them that night. They’re on a terrible run.

Christmas games are always important and if we could get the six points over the next two games they will be huge.

Rafa mentioned about Brighton the other day and how good their starting 11 are as opposed to their first 15 or 16….

You can see he is hoping some of our challengers pick up injuries soon, although it’s not looking that way yet.

Just hope the Shelvey ban does not come back to haunt us.

Diame can do well today however the AFCON kicks us again so I can see someone coming in early in the window.

It will be a fantastic atmosphere tonight, a bit reminiscent of a certain night when Malcolm Allen found the net and Clarky rubbed Waddle’s face in it….

I have us down for a draw tonight simply because, as it’s the first one of Shelvey’s five, it could take a game or so to settle into what has got to be an unfamiliar setup. Hope I’m very wrong.
