Newcastle fans were rightly disappointed at the result last night when our lads conspired to lose once again at home in front of a sell-out crowd of over 52,000 fans.
What’s that about?
We were second best on the night – so we hope it’s just one of those nights – but we are a little worried nevertheless.
Glenn Loovens heads home winner
Late to the party, but that’s the most worried i’ve been by any of our losses thus far. Outfought and outthought by a promotion rival. #NUFC

I’m ready to be shot down in flames but Perez, Mitrovic offer very little. No complaints about the score. #nufc

Let’s not cry about fouls, we lost, move on and try to win the next one #nufc

toothless, but well played #SWFC, #NUFC have serious problems up front, Gayle, Diame, Perez, Mitrovic, really ! https://t.co/OoSeFLSw39

That’s 4 losses in 7 games, two of which were at home. #NUFC in poor form, and have to sort it out before Shelvey returns. Top 2 not a given

Just landed and as predicted the more we pat ourselves on the back for big attendances the more we fall flat on our faces #NUFC

Well i think we will have to put last nights down as one of those days. No need to panic. Best team won on the night. #nufc #swfc

We’ll still be alright, mind. Plenty of effort, but without Shelvey we do lack that creative spark. Undenably deflating result. #NUFC

Comment #81The concern is that SJP is where we are more vulnerable. We’ve lost 6 in this league – 4 more than Brighton and are far from invulnerable at home. We are prone to being closed down by harrying sides denying us space and its happened a few times now, that we’ve not managed to break down sides playing like that who manage to keep tight at the back.
Part of it has to be players just not performing, but Rafa really does need a good Plan B for when we get closed down, denied apace and harried by sides just looking for the odd goal to beat us. Our defence is far from strong enough yet when their SOG is more than ours, like last night, and we rely on Darlow quite so much.Good job he’s on form.
We’re not playing with form guaranteeing promotion, but I would not blame Rafa for player complacency: he always talks up the opposition’s abilities.

Comment #82Too late I think on the HBA front – lad at the match last night mentioned that he’s gone on loan to Fernabache ?

Comment #83Trying to put a positive spin on yesterday.
It couldn’t have happened at a better time.
With the window opening next Wednesday any thoughts Rafa had about vacillating on signings will be dispelled now.

Comment #85I cannot see Anita and Gouffran staying on – not if they are only going to be offered 1 year extensions on less money. The likelihood is that both will get offers of 3 year deals, at clubs that give them a kick-back in wages, due to not having to pay a transfer fee for them. Get them both of the wage bill and make squad space because they are not worth to Newcastle what it will cost to keep them.

Would be nice to think that carroll would come home in the summer, constantly getting goals when he does play

Comment #89lochinvar – they haven’t signed him on loan yet, but have made the offer and PSG have accepted. It’s up to HBA now, but with the signing of Draxler at PSG I think he’ll be looking to move elsewhere to get more playing time.

Comment #90JamesToon – Carroll constantly gets goals when he plays, but he doesn’t exactly play constantly, does he? 🙂
My claim to fame is that I was Andy’s maths teacher for a year back when I did my teacher training in Gateshead. Lovely lad, but maths wasn’t really his subject (you’d be shocked to hear). I’d love to see him back at SJP if he could stay injury free, but he’s not getting any younger and I doubt his injuries will get any better.
