Three Changes For Newcastle Against Forest

Rafa Benitez has just named his starting line-up for tonight’s important game against Nottingham Forest at St. James’ Park.

With Brighton’s game at home to Cardiff City being called off because of thick fog on the south coast Newcastle will go back to top of the league with a win tonight.

Rafa has brought in DeAndre Yedlin for Vurnon Anita, Christian Atsu for Yoan Gouffran and Ayoze Perez for Mo Diame.

We guessed Yedlin and Atsu would come in, but we thought Rafa would start Mo tonight before he left for the African Cup of Nations.

It would be a very good time for Ayoze Perez to have a good game and get on the score-sheet for us – and the same goes for Atsu.

But we need to be able to score tonight after being goalless against the Owls.

Here’s what Rafa has said in the lead up to this game about the tough Championship:

“I’m really pleased with the away form.” “When a team is doing so well away, if you are also as good at home you would be ten points clear.”

“We know that it’s a difficult competition.” “We know it’s a difficult league and teams are coming to our stadium and trying to work very hard in defence and be very compact, very narrow and play on the counter-attack.”

“It’s something we have seen during the whole season and we need to understand how to play these games.” “If you can not win, don’t give them any hope that they can score and then at least you will have a draw.”

“It’s something that still we have to learn.” “Sometimes, when you say that they come and they press very high, to surprise you, but normally they will be well organised in defence.”

“And they will try to play counter-attack, so we will have to deal with that and do it in a better way than we did the other day because we know that we were not quick enough moving the ball.”

“We know that we didn’t create too much; we had the chances at the beginning and after that we were defending counter-attacks, so we have to manage better these kind of games.”

Most fans expect a win tonight that would take us back to the top of the Championship.

I have been very disappointed with Perez this last 8-10 games…..

Genuinely thought Mitro would have had a start, so lightweight up front and if they watched the Sheff Wed game the Forest defenders will know they just need to bully Gayle.

I’d have thought that as we’re starting with two wingers that Mitro would’ve been the obvious choice to pick up on high crosses.

But, Rafa’s playing Perez alongside Gayle and could that show that Mitro doesn’t have a future with us?

Well it looks better than the last match, but clearly Mitro isnt going to get much from Rafa so think he will be gone at the end of the season.

Hope im wrong but i cant see Perez doing much in this league as Forest will come with their midfield sat right in front of their CBs so there will be no room for Perez. And he is so lighweight that he will be knocked off the ball too easy-Mitro would have been a better choice with Gayle buzzing round him, a la Shearer and Bellamy.

Anyway hope im wrong and Perez gets a hattrick.

The Forest fans are not impressed with the starting line up. They are really going to get it tonight.

2 wingers and no-one to cross to.

Forest just defend wide and keep their 2 CMs protecting their CBs so no room in the hole and we will resort to crossing the ball to dwarves.

And still 2 deensive CMs at home in the championship, even tho we know we will have 60-65% of possession. Just dont think it is needed. Why not play Diame as much as possible before the AFCoN, drop him in CM with Hayden surely.

Let’s hope we don’t get bullied like Sheff Wed did on Monday. Perez needs to step up far to lightweight so far this season

I keep thinking Rafa is working on Mitro and he will get his chance or hex will become a ‘Rafa Player’….

But I would not be surprised now if he is sold in January.

Boro, CP and West Ham have allegedly shown an interest, maybe Rafa knows he does not want him and is saying the right things to make sure it’s a good bid that will be made.

I like Mitro and hoped he would of improved as he is young.

He is a bit volatile though…..

not to sure about this team, first off it looks like mitro,s days are numbered he was playing so well last month dont know why rafa did not build on them great performances, seems a waste,

for me colback plays to deep and is pants going forward and dummet while i believe he is a steady player he offers nothing going forward, so basically nothing down the left hand side,

whilst perez can play brill at times he hasnt done a lot of late, for me St james should be a fortress we should be attacking not parking the bus and playing hoof ball,

Teams are sussing us well out i think but this is just my opinion,

Does anyone know where i can get a live stream?

I’d say if Perez goes down in the box, the benefit of the doubt would be given, and a penalty awarded.

Probably not in the plan… but I would have no qualms with them getting a taste of their own medicine.

    2 wingers and no Mitro!!!
Colback still gets a game !!!!
Perez aka the invisible man gets a game !!!!!

Fingers crossed for a good result (1-0 win would do)

Pretty much the same team that started at Forest on the 2nd December, complete with the ineffective Perez. Looks like a draw, or the odd goal either way. I don’t think Mitro is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but he is surely a better bet than Perez if the intention is to score goals?

I don’t know why folk are so negative about the selection.

We have a tricky away game to Blackburn on Monday afternoon (on Sky) followed by an away cuptie a week tomorrow.

This is the ideal game to play Perez with Kevin (cardhappy) Stroud.

Mitro is better used as an impact player.

For all those times people did not choose Shelvey as MoM, last game revealed how important he is. Hopefully we can find some creativity without him. That being said, we seemed much more dangerous last game when Mitro was on the pitch and I agree with those above who say that Perez and Gayle get pushed around too easily. I pray for an early lead, but if not, please bring on Mitro before the 75 minute.

Presuming Colback will not make 90 minutes / saved for Monday, so potentially Diame (winning) or Anita (losing) on there. Plus Mitro substituting Gayle (winning) or Perez (losing).

Handy having firebugs team sheet first for mobile phone bloggers, easy to refer to rather than scrolling to the very top. Oh no! Now I will be called a footy know nowt dunce.

Would prefer to see Mitro in. Just seems without Shelvey we are strongest attacking down the edges and boming the opposition with crosses. Mitro would be perfect with Gayle trailing behind. Oh well, I still think we’ll win. HWTL!

Sat in my seat. Forest didn’t sell their allocation, but we’ve done it for them 🙂 Surprised to see Perez starting, this won’t be an easy game for him. Must do well in training because he gets pushed around far too easily for my liking. Still, come on Perez, prove me wrong please. If we score early we can take these apart imo, but I think they’ll park the bus until we score. Ten minutes till ko. Howay the Lads!!!!
