The Mail is reporting today that Newcastle are interested in Tom Cleverley, the former Manchester United midfielder who signed last year for Everton on a five year deal.
Cleverly hasn’t played many games for Everton this season under new Dutch manager Ronald Koeman and the report is that Newcastle are interested in taking the player on loan next month for the rest of the season.
Tom Cleverley – Everton and England International midfielder
Rafa Benitez has said Newcastle were looking to bring in some Premier League players on loan and we suppose Cleverley could be one of those targets.
West Brom and other Premier League clubs are also interested in signing Cleverley on loan for the rest of the season, but it’s thought the 27 year-old would be interested in a loan move to play under Rafa Benitez on Tyneside.
Newcastle were interested in Cleverley back when he was still at Manchester United and we tried to get him on loan back in August, 2010, but he ended up at Wigan Athletic for the 2010-2011 season.
He came through the Manchester United Youth system and has played 13 times for England, but this season his career has stalled under Ronald Koeman and he is keen to get more playing time, which he would get at Newcastle.
Tom also played 5 times for the Great Britain side in the 2012 London Olympics and is a decent player.
He played 79 times for the Red Devils with 5 goals and has been on loan at Leicester, Watford, Wigan and Aston Villa until he signed in the summer of 2015 for Everton.
He has played 42 times with 2 goals for the Toffees.
What do you think?

Comment #2if we are in the premier league next season and let’s say the current premier league table is the table in a year’s time i’d expect and be happy for Newcastle to be in the mid-table group between 7th on 27 points and 15th on 20 points.

Comment #3Don’t players like Cleverley play an important role as squad players. Why would Everton loan him, unless the player himself wants out?
He would obviously be a terrific loan signing for us, for the run in, of course. Possibly a good permanent signing, in the off season, if he were to show he was of a mind to graft for games.

Comment #14Jib – you calling me embarrassing is the very definition of hypocrisy. You’re easily the biggest WUM on here. Anyway, if 2017 brings me what I want then you’ll disappear from this blog.

Comment #17Wouldn’t mind bringing players on loan.
Who can provide quick fixes for 6 month.
Cleverley,Delph or couple of city players that didn’t got game time will be good additions with premier League experience and can help us push towards promotion. One way or the other, couple of signings is a must.

Comment #18Loaning a playmaker would be good business. Then we can try get an upgrade when we get back to the prem and won’t have to worry about shifting another player.
