Rafa Comments On Dwight Gayle’s Contribution

It was that man Dwight Gayle again who got two goals for Newcastle in the second half to send us on our way to a good 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest and take some revenge for that bizarre game at the City Ground four weeks ago which we lost 2-1 with 9 men.

Dwight’s goals came out of nothing and he managed to get the ball into the back of the net both times – this lad is a natural poacher and a natural goalscorer.

At the beginning of the season the number 9 said he’d like to get 20 goals for us this season –  well – he’s on 19 so far just one game past half-way,  so he’s been some buy for only £10M from Crystal Palace.

Dwight Gayle scoring his fist goal and Newcastle’s second

And we have to thank former manager Alan Pardew for that because he never rated Dwight and didn’t play him much at all while he was manager of Crystal Palace.

Rafa Benitez is pleased with Dwight’s tremendous contribution so far this season and he had this to say last night after the game:

“We said at the beginning of the season that Gayle is a good player.” “He works hard for the team, but at the same time he can score goals.”

“I am really pleased for him, and for the team.”  “He has to carry on scoring goals – that will be good for everyone.”

Dwight has been terrific for Newcastle and he’s a really key player in our promotion drive.

Here are the goalscorers at Newcastle, updated after last night’s game.

Just don’t get all the Neggy comments about last nights game…it’s never easy playing a team who park the bus who who come to disrupt. We won and we’re a step nearer to our goal no matter how ugly or unconvincing.

Sheffield wednesday showed the whole championship how to beat us on Monday and we’re gonna come up against the disruption play a lot more this season.

It will be harder for the rest of the season and I’ll doubt we’ll match the number of points we managed to collect in the first half of the season but with 90 points we’ll get there.

    In Rafa we must trust.

Looking at the scoreline and the BBC stats you’d think we coasted to that win last night. Far from it, I think that the team have a super star mentality which they are not, how can Hayden just walk away and expect somebody else to win the ball back, what is the excuse when Dummet has passed the infield just to completely switch off when the simple pass was given back to him.

We are one point ahead and with a better goal diff than Hoots after 24 games.

So 102 points is on course and 107 is still definetely achievable.

what on earth has happened to Perez
he has more interest in his hair then playing football last night the kid has gone backwards under Rafa
he was the player who i thought would improve and add to his game under Rafa
he just looks lost and uninterested

    Strange game last night.
First 10 mins we looked like we were going to humiliate them.
Then like nearly all home games we stop pressing and start going sideways and back.
A very poor Forest team grab a goal. The pressure builds and we go sideways and back more.
Hayden in particular seems to be effected by the pressure. He started well but went missing.
Without the red card that could easy have been another home defeat.
Our passing from the back, particularly Dummett and Lascelles is dreadful.
Everything – once we sit back – is too slow and obvious.
But the first 10 mins shows we can play at pace and be incisive.
Diame played well when on in deeper role.
Perez I just don’t understand why he still starts.

But 3 points is 3 points and we go back top.

If we played with attacking intent at home we would be walking this league and already be 10 points clear.
Hope the intent changes in the new year but doubt it will.

Gayle’s record is amazing, don’t remember when we last had a 20+ goal scorer. Long may he continue to bang them in.

Would be interesting to see the minutes played goals scored ratio. I’m sure Mitro’s record wouldn’t be too far from Gayle’s. Give him time on the pitch, Rafa. He too will do the job, especially when Gayle is getting roughed up.

I totally agree re Perez, I honestly thought under Rafa he would become some player. The games I have watched him I can’t really remember him doing anything.

But Rafa must see something so in him I trust, maybe it’s just confidence or a personal matter.

    Hopefully he will come good.

On anot her note the window opens tomorrow. ….. Wonder if we will bring anyone in ?

At the moment we average 2.25 points a game which would give us 104 points at season’s end .
However if we can reduce the number of daft home losses (which we will i.m.o ) 107 points is most certainly achievable

I was 50/50 when we signed Gayle but he has done fantastic. Scores all sorts of goals but his biggest skill for me he always seems to be in the right place.

P45due must have loved watching him score for us when CP were losing games !

Perez I just don’t understand why he still starts.

Because we have another crucial game in 50 odd hours.

For me mate without trying to overlook the championship…It’s a realisation that half the squad are simply not good enough for the Pl ,And are championship standard at best.
We have a world class manager in Rafa.A nucleus of a good squad.Amazing support but just lack that X factor.
(When) we go up to the pl this season there is one massive rebuild needed, And this is when we see what Mashley’s intentions are for Nufc
