Another Newcastle January Transfer Target Identified

Earlier tonight Sky Sports were reporting that Newcastle want to sign 24 year-old Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson in January.

This is not the first time we have been linked with Callum, with the first report surfacing around November 24th that Callum was a target, but at the time it was thought to be for a summer transfer.

However, Sky Sports are usually fairly accurate with their information, but we would be very surprised if Bournemouth are willing to let one of their best players leave in January, half way through the season.

Callum Wilson – 24 year-old Bournemouth striker

However, whether the deal can go through or not depends a lot on the player himself and in Matt Ritchie’s case he told Eddie Howe in the summer that the attraction of Newcastle was just too much.

Matt said he wanted to leave Bournemouth for Newcastle, so Howe did the deal with the Magpies.

It’s not known how much Bournemouth want for Wilson who they signed from Coventry in July, 2014 for around £3M, but it’s likely to be  a lot.

Callum started his career at his home town club Coventry, where he played for a couple of seasons in the first team after coming through the youth ranks and scored 23 goals in 55 games for them.

At Bournemouth he has done very well although he was out for most of last season after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in September last year.

He didn’t return to action until late April and so far in the Premier League he has a total of 8 goals in 24 appearances with 3 of them coming this season in 11 appearances.

In Bournemouth’s promotion season of 2014-2015 he scored an excellent 23 goals in 50 appearances for the south coast club.

With Newcastle being successful with Matt Ritchie in the summer you have to believe that Matt would give Newcastle a glowing reference to his former team-mate.

It also looks like the club is going places with Rafa Benitez in charge and Newcastle are currently top of the Championship with 17 wins in 24 league games.

What do you think?

I’d be very surprised if they let him go in January. Possibly in the summer but not now.

just read this on sky, would be a very good signing imo, but have absolutely no idea how much he’d cost, he’s like their star player wont be cheap, few sources going round we want loftus cheek and fabian delph both would also be great signings time will tell.

Wilson would be a great signing for us could see Rafa going with 2 up top if we signed him ! The boy has the lot rapid pace, work rate, good in the air , can hold the ball up and can finish!! Reminds me a little of Sir Les!

Buying a few other teams in the premiership’s star players is how we will progress as a club so if we got him and Snodgrass that would set us up for this season while also giving us players who are currently thriving in the premiership!

Would take Cleverly or Delph on loan as well

    I scored a goal like Giroud’s once.
It was in a game of 42-a-side in the morning break at school.

Just to be clear, this is my one and only username. Why would I need to make another one up when I say what I want and don’t hold back with this one?

Fine player. Whatever about that, Rafa needs to get us attacking more. Didn’t realise boro last year were doing as well as us at this time. As the chronicle said we are not a team to enforce our advantage in games. Rafa is more about defensive control once we have the lead. I’d like to see us get at teams more, especially at home. That might mean two strikers though and that’s hardly going to happen
