Blackburn Looks A High Risk Game For Newcastle

For the second game in a row tomorrow Newcastle will face a team who have recently beaten us, when we travel to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rivers.

We did manage to beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday after they had beaten us 2-1 in that bizarre game at the City Ground.

Blackburn are fighting for their survival in 3rd bottom place in the Championship, but that didn’t stop them from beating us 1-0 on November 26th in a shocking result.

Owen Coyle – Blackburn’s Scottish  manager

Since then Rovers have drawn two and lost four so they have slumped back since that surprising win at Newcastle in front of a sell-out crowd.

In that game Rafa did make six changes to the side and it looked like he wanted to keep his best side for the November 29th quarter-final tie at Hull City, which we also lost.

And the defeat against Rovers prevented Newcastle from creating an all time record at the club of 10 wins on the trot in all competitions.

🙁

Rafa has since admitted it was a mistake to have field that team, when too many players were not ready for the game, and the manager will be anxious to get maximum points tomorrow at Blackburn Rovers.

But we have also played poorly in our last two games without play-maker Jonjo Shelvey, so it could be another banana skin game for us.

But it’s one that we have to win.

How Will Newcastle Fare At Blackburn?

you don’t half repeat yourself ad nauseum, you’re like a dog with a bone. yes hughton is doing well, fair play to him and nice guy and all that, but he’s totally irrelevant now.

we know you and some others are not wild about rafa and think you know better and could do a better job.

But as it stands, after having to sell sissoko, wijni, townsend, janmatt, cabella, thauvin etc, among others, we are top of the league and top scorers, even though you don’t think rafa is maximising our attacking potential !

They say it’s hard to please some people and the guy who christened you ”moanster” was in fairness, spot on.

    Munster,
    Happy New Year.
I’m sorry to pi$$ on your chips on the first day of the year but Hoots hasn’t got his cheaper but vastly more experienced squad top, Rafa has his more expensive but very hastily thrown together team sitting proudly at the top of the table going in to this new year.

if he sign Tielemans, I maybee will start to trust in this regime, but there is little chance, because bigger clubs are after him. But for now would be enough Cleverley and Loftus Cheek, that would sort out our CM and Shelvey maybee could be moved higher as no. 10

I will give these two windows and I will see, I cant say these players. But one in the Tielemans calibre would make difference…but for now if we bring Loftus Cheek, Cleverley and lets say Berahino, that would be great window in my opinion. Cleverley proven at highest level, Berahino and RLC great potential…all English so all of them know EPL style…if we sign these calibre of players, we can see, that Rafa is building for EPL, Diame, Hayden, Clark, Hanley are for me all transition players from Championship to EPL, but they can be squad players in EPL, but none of them is starter in my opinion…

    Hibbit and toonfan8,

I posted a few days ago about possible transfers and I think someone we could get an would improve us would be Glyfi Siggorson. He would be a great signing in my opinion.

    Toonfan8,
I fully understand your distrust of Mike Ashley, I have been very out spoken on the matter over the last seven years but nobody is talking about him now, he hardly gets a mention, at long last he is not a topic of convérsation.

Sigurdson would be great as no.10 in Rafa system, and Snodgrass would suit perfectly too, but I dont think they are realistic targets this season as they are key players for them teams. So maybee next window if they go down would be realistic and great targets…

It is good that now, we dont have to talk about him all the time. We can talk more about football matters. But I will trust, when I see it. Maybee last season with Rafa and calibre of players they brought, would be different story. Because Mbemba, Wijnaldum, Mitrovic, Townsend are for me all high calibre players…or were when we sign them, but what I dont understand is the negativity about Mbemba, Mitrovic, they are two very young players in most important positions, CB, CF, they have massive potential, but some of fans are already writting them off….they were our better players last season under clueless manager…

In response to the thrust of the article (how rare is that!) if Owen Coyle gets another dodgy ref’s decision against Blackburn I think he’ll have to be hospitalised with a blown gasket.
On boxing day he was nearly in tears.

yes I agree, but risk for low price and one that we know is capable of scoring goals and be a real threat. Has massive potential, if someone can make him playing at his best level, then he will have some player, also he suits to a lot of systems, he can be played as withdrawn striker, also when you play 3 upfront, also as a loan striker as Gayle…

    Toonfan8,
It doesn’t matter one iota if the fans idolise or write off a player like Mitro or Dummet, it’s what a manager who we trust thinks of that player that will bring us success.

And if after these two windows we will have players like Berahino, Sigurdsson, Snodgrass, Gayle, Mitrovic I wont be afraid of us not scoring goals, because everyone of them is capable of scoring +10 in EPL…so that strikeforce may do us top 8 team, but now we only have 2 😀 so thats dream now.

    FACT,
We have scored more goals than anyone else over all four divisions, we have the best GD and currently have the leading striker, how can anyone possibly complain that we aren’t scoring enough. I remember Moanster Mag bitterely complaining about our defeat against Aston Villa, do people not read the news?

Thanks jib for the idea on perming any championship team from our squad. Totally irrelevant but what the hey. What about the team that was picked against Sheffield Wednesday? That did well. But I’m talking about a pl-ready squad that can hit the ground at least at a trot. Even if they are pl players who are suffering from or loss of four, still be a good idea. There might not be a whole bunch of townsends out there but there must be some worthy players that could afterburner us to promotion.

As you said, there are 20-odd games to go. I put it that Rafa might see us losing steam if we don’t strengthen a couple of positions in the interim.

Toonfan, Jail – I would suggest the lack of playing time in the first team signifies that it isn’t the fans consigning Mitrovic and Mbemba to the twilight. It’s not like they’ve both just got off the plane, they’ve been here a while. I was hoping Rafa would rotate them but it seems like that idea is stalling a bit probably due to lack of quality or motivation, who knows. I mean, what’s the deal with Perez?

With regard to transfers I think what will happen is that Rafa will ensure we go up this season with cover for Shelvey and then next season do enough to keep us up.
I think he’s in for the long haul, a legacy building journey. He’s learned from Real Madrid not to trust “the superstars” and will only sign players to take us towards his plan. What we need to do is trust a wise head on experienced shoulders, 5 years from now we will be there.

yes we have scored more goals than anyone else, but the fact, that I have seen Gouffran, Perez, Diame, Ritchie and also Gayle and Mitro, all have played there and none of them score +10 goals a season and thats a worry…

I’d definitely sign Lansbury if he’s available.

He’s skillful, works hard for his team and scores goals.

OK he’s a bit of a diva (diver) but I’d rather we had him playing for us than against us and funnily enough I think the Toon fans would soon take to him.

No to Berahino (rather bring back Armstrong) and no to Hogan, we got similar in Murphy if he ever gets into the team or squad even.

Jib already told us that Shelvey is only out for two more league games so we don’t need to sign anyone to replace him, because he’s obviously going to play every single game after that and we’ve shown how dangerous it is for us not to have a replacement for him. We should probably get rid of all the back-up goalkeepers too, as we apparently don’t need cover for vital positions.

    Embarrassing.

    Good afternoon gentlemen.
Janmaat another upwardly mobile player, who couldn’t possibly play for a team like the toon in the Championship.
Looking forward to, hopefully, pitting our wits against his new club next season, and making another ex mag face up to the wisdom of his decision to down tools and get himself a move away.

So if we sign a couple of players in January which coincidently gives our current crop the kick up the backside they need and said signings struggle to get in to the team as we keep winning and scoring goals, do said signings then become disasters as we should be scoring more if better ones were made.
