Sammy Ameobi has six months left on his contract at Newcastle and he’s played quite well for Bolton on loan through this month, but he has no future at Newcastle.
Ameobi’s loan spell at Bolton ends after the home game tomorrow against Coventry City.
The 24-year-old has scored four goals in 22 total appearances for Bolton and it seems like Bolton want to extend his loan through the end of the season.
Sammy Ameobi – on loan at Bolton through Tuesday
The Shields Gazette is reporting today that Ameobi will return to Newcastle when his loan deal expires, but then Rafa Benitez will make a decision on what to do with the 24 year-old.
Maybe the manager wants to take a look at him in training and maybe if Rafa’s impressed enough he may keep Sammy at Newcastle to help in our promotion drive.
But we think that’s unlikely.
Sammy has always had great ability, but he’s also been very inconsistent and it’s been difficult for Sammy to produce his best on a regular basis.
So it seems as though he will not be able to stay at his home town club for the majority of his career like his older brother Shola was able to do.
And Sammy seems to like it at Bolton, so there’s a chance he could end up at the Trotters next season.
Sammy has played 66 times for the Newcastle first team with four goals and eight assists.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Sammy might be able to do a job for us as far as cover is concerned, but that is as much as he’ll do. Maybe a brief cameo if we can’t find another interested club.

Comment #3I’ve had a few ordered online earlier this season Shirebrook, they were out in the post straight away and on the door mat in a couple of days.
Mind that was not Christmas post / bank holiday closures etc. When did you order them online?

Comment #6Sammy lives with an asthma condition, which might affect his ability to play a full 90 minutes. Just when the breathing problem kicks in would be a worry for the manager. Unplanned substitutions are not what the manager wants. So, I’d say Sammy has less of a chance at staying at NUFC than others of equal ability.

Comment #9Sammy unfortunately is nowhere near good enough, just release him now.
Regarding the previous post about potential signings I’d only loan Loftus cheek. Seen Cleverley a few times this season and he has been dreadful. Delph is a crock with very little game time under his belt.
I do think loans in January are our best option though as we have enough players to move on should we get promoted. I honestly think the majority of our first 11 are not good enough for the premier league. I think about 4 of our players would be good enough to get into a mid tabled prem team.

Snodgrass is so versatile a place could easily be found for him. I’d probably play him instead of Ritchie or Guoffron.

and that this team was put together with one aim in mind promotion

Comment #12Brighton have had a relatively easy home fixture against Cardiff City postponed – they now have a much harder fixture tomorrow away to Fulham.
They may never get the impetus back to overtake us again.
Fingers crossd.

Comment #15I’m not sure we can judge the quality of all of our individual players so easily at this point. A couple of wisely judged additions can bring up the function of a few of our players who would otherwise look ordinary / average.
I would like to see one really good quality attacking midfielder, and a mobile, quick left back. Yedlin will be the first choice right back ideally. A striker who is strong, has some pace and a better finishing rate than Mitro / Murphy as well. The other players in our 1st eleven have some development potential and will look stronger with the quality additions mentioned.

There’s a lot of athletes with asthma conditions and they are able to compete at a very high level, I don’t think that would be a problem with the right medical backing.
He’ll probably continue at Bolton for the rest of the season anyway but if Rafa (all hail him) decides to bring him back then I expect he’ll give him a game or two if he doesn’t impress then he’ll be off to pastures new.

Deeney is Watfords version of Mickey Quinn. 🙂
I thought Guediera had a good game despite their poor showing. Looks similar to Shelvey in his style and ability.
I.m fully expecting that Sam will be chewing the cud in frustration as Arsenal take them apart.

Comment #19Sammy has undoubted talent but can’t find any consistency at all, even after long enough loan spells he’s had. It doesn’t look like he has the desire required. We have to be looking for more from our squad than that.
I have championed the case of Haris Vuckic for ages, and he is due back from loan now too. I have to admit it’s time to lose him now as well.nIt’s a shame, as he looked a massive prospect with bags of talent when he got the odd chance from the bench as a teenager. Has gone backwards even further and now couldn’t get in the Bradford first team. A real waste of his own talent.

Aye, I can’t believe he gets away with it (Deeney) in these days of nutritionists, fitness / conditioning coaches. It’s not as if he’s sticking the ball in the back of the net every week!

I do think this team/squad is capable of getting us up and agree but some of them have been given 5yr deals hanley, hayden to name a few and Murphy a 3yr deal I think. Probably to protect the clubs investment but I personally don’t think many of them are good enough for the premier league which is why a loan is maybe better in january because we can then just hand them back if not needed instead of being stuck with a player on a 5yr deal.
Gayle is our main man yet was regularly overlooked at a poor palace team and at one stage was being pushed into a move to Bristol city ( no disrespect to Bristol by the way).
I’m enjoying the season but under no illusion that this team would struggle in the prem but don’t want to fill our squad with the likes of Cleverley Delph on permanent deals etc. Cleverley has been that poor he can’t get into a under performing everton team and Delph is nowhere to be seen.
Should we get promoted I think rafa will be able to attract better players than these.

Comment #23Bit late maybe, but a happy new year to Ed, for all his hard work in keeping the blog going. Same to each and every one of you, old and new, who make the blog what it is.
On signings, I imagine one or two might come in, but he’ll only go for players he wants especially. If he can’t get them, don’t expect him to buy players just for the sake of it. Better to keep the money for the summer when we’re back in the PL. I’d like to see a couple come in myself, but only if they improve the first team. No doubt Rafa has next season in mind and that’s the standard he’ll be looking for. Pity Judge isn’t fit yet.
Nothing less than three points will do on Monday, whilst Brighton have a tough game at Fulham. Come on Newcastle, you know you can do it.

Comment #33It’s not so much teams sussing us out, it’s a mixture of suspensions, injuries loss of individual form, intensifying competition as the end of season jostling for playoff spots loom, and the possibility we will rely on players not currently in favour to continue the good work done by those who, up to now, are. I expect a bit of movement this window, otherwise it will have the potential to bite us on the butt like it did during the last infamous “squad good enough” window where we did nowt and paid the due price for it. I’m sure Rafa knows his plan, but you have to allow for the fact that the same bean counter is holding the purse and old habits can die hard.
