Anita, Gouffran And Diame Return For Newcastle

The Newcastle team has just been announced for the game at Ewood Park this afternoon against Blackburn Rovers, who are still lingering in 3rd bottom place in the Championship.

So that’s three changes from the last game with the reliable Yoan Gouffran and Vurnon Anita replacing DeAndre Yedlin and Christian Atsu and Mo Diame comibng in for Ayoze Perez.

It’s interesting that Aleksandar Mitrovic is not in the squad and a rare sub appearance for Daryl Murphy – maybe he will get a run out today against Blackburn.

There will be speculation that maybe Mitro is up for sale in January – but it didn’t start here.

🙂

With Blackburn having beaten us 1-0 at home in late November, the lads will be wanting to get a win today in Lancashire that will keep us at the top of the Championship.

It’s going to be an interesting atmosphere at Ewood Park today with the home fans organising a protest march against the owners pre-game and a sit-in after the game. Hopefully the hostility will work in our favour, especially if we can grab the first goal. Might unsettle Rovers enough to collapse.

No problem with this line up away from home as we always need to battle in the first half until the home side runs out of steam its when we are at home and should be dominating teams then this line up is not acceptable !

Got to be looking at getting two goals ahead and then bringing on Mbemba and Murphy, in order to rest Lascelles/Clarke and Gayle…at least.

I think Mitro could go to Boro on loan until summer – they could really do with him – PL experience – his wages covered for 6 months – no upheaval and handy for his lass and the bairn .

Very flexible lineup,,yelin & atus will be used for attacking or defending depend on the situation. Anita can be used at midfield as well. Hope our big Mitro can get his chance.

Boro are bringing in Gestede, it’s unlikely they will sign another striker at this point – unless Rhodes is sold.

I don’t think Mitrovic will be going anywhere this month, I read that Rafa had, had a chat with him, and he wants to stay and fight for his place.

Hummmm Mitro not even on the bench. Something afoot. It’s well documented that we are in for another forward. Appears Rafa does not rate him. Shame can’t fault the lads passion but appears it’s not enough.

I wonder if something was said after the game between Mitro and Rafa.
Me if I was Mitro I wouldn’t of been happy waiting to the 86th minute as we have been struggling up front late on of late

Dummett making his 100th appearance, nice one. Appears a lot of managers including Rafa likes this lad, shame some of the bloggers on this site think they know better. You have got to laugh.

No Mitro. Can’t help but feel he’s off – and don’t blame him either. Whenever he starts to hit a run of form he’s replaced by Gayle in the next match.

He doesn’t really fit in to Rafa’s gameplan either. Don’t think he’s ever been a fan of big forwards.

There again, Murphy has been waiting for his chance a lot longer than Mitro, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s just politics.

I agree with Rafa on Mitro. Someone being mental can be entertaining but it won`t help our club. Not saying there is no use for him at all, was wishing him to see him on earlier the other game we lost. But we`ll need better next year at least.

NUFC already rebuffed one enquiry for Mitrovic

So Mitrovic. Here’s the situation as we know it:

Rafa’s ‘rested’ the striker today, recalling Daryl Murphy in his place.

Watford, Swansea, West Ham and Palace are all among his admirers in England – Palace have already had one enquiry rebuffed, with Newcastle telling the Eagles they don’t want to sell.

Benitez has told Mitrovic he wants him to stay, and the striker himself says he wants to battle for his place.

No-one is completely off the table in January and if Newcastle did sell, they’d need a replacement – and a bid well in excess of the £15million Palace were talking about.

Benitez signed Morientes and Crouch for Liverpool… both big strikers not exactly gifted with pace.

Would’ve left yedlin in with his pace as he was a threat the other night. Mitro situation doesn’t look good when a 33yr old whose been injured takes your place. Shame as I like him. Sells the most shirts too so cashley will miss him as well!

@AncientC: Did he take Crouch to Liverpool? Can’t even remember when he played for them tbh.

Even then, my point being that the big lads rarely factor in to Plan A, a different dimension, sure (in the case of Crouch, potentially two different dimensions based on his height and ability to flop at balls in just the right way).
