Rafa Benitez has already said that he doesn’t expect any deals to be made early in the January transfer window, but that he is expecting arrivals during January.
It seems that Newcastle have done all they can before the window opened and have put in loan offers for three central midfield players.
They are Chelsea’s 20 year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Manchester City’s 27 year-old Fabian Delph and Everton’s 27 year-old Tom Cleverley.
Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley – put four offers in for players
Now there’s not too much Newcastle can do about those players until they get responses back from their respective clubs.
It may be the clubs aren’t too willing to respond early as they wait for other potential offers coming in – maybe from Premier League clubs.
We also have an offer in for 24 year-old striker Callum Wilson of Bournemouth, but manager Eddie Howe doesn’t want to sell.
But he didn’t want to sell Matt Ritchie in the summer either, so this one to a large extent depends on what Callum Wilson wants to do.
Certainly he will get higher wages at Newcastle and we have the draw of Rafa Benitez, but he will have to take a drop down the leagues.
But it looks like that will be for this season only – with Newcastle looking good to get promoted.
And it’s certainly an easier sell than it was for Matt Ritchie since we are now top of the Championship and 9 points above third placed Reading who have a game in hand on us.
We just have to keep taking one game at a time and not get carried away …..
So that seems to be the current situation with Newcastle’s transfer business – we are waiting on responses to four offers that have been put in.
Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley have done their work early and the four offers are all in at the very start of the transfer window.
That’s as much as they could have done.
What do you think?
