Newcastle Drop Interest In One Striker – Top Target Out Of Reach?

Ed Aarons of the Guardian –  as noted in Chronicle Live – is reporting today that Newcastle have withdrawn their interest in Brentford striker Scott Hogan, who is currently joint third top scorer in the Championship with 14 goals.

Brentford are asking £15M for him and are likely to hold out for that amount with the news today that Premier league club Watford have made an £8M bid for the 24 year-old who has spent much of his time in the lower leagues.

Scott Hogan – Newcastle withdraw interest

The Guardian claims that West Ham are also interested, but as for Newcastle – that’s one transfer target we can cross off the (long) list.

It seems our number one striker target is Callum Wilson of Bournemouth who scored a penalty last night in the game at home to Arsenal.

It was some game that saw the home side 3-0 up after 70 minutes only for Arsenal to come storming back and to equalize in stoppage time to get a 3-3 draw.

Callum Wilson – played well against Arsenal

Callum looked very quick and the speed of the former Coventry striker and some of the other Bournemouth players up front caused the Gunners all kinds of trouble at the back.

But it’s just a pity the Cherries couldn’t hold on for what could have been one of their best results ever.

Callum would be a good signing for Newcastle, but we just cannot see him wanting to leave Bournemouth for Newcastle this month – it would be a surprise if we can get him in.

Maybe in the summer?

Like Ed I really cannot see him wanting to come here in January. Maybe in the Summer when (or if) we get promoted but not now – why would he?

I would take Wilson over Hogan any day. From what I’ve seen of Hogan he looks lucky (which isn’t a bad attribute) rather than skilful. Agree that he probably wouldn’t fancy the move anyway. If Bournemouth were in the relegation mire it could be feasible, but mid table comfort in the Prem is a comfortable spot for him.

Callum Wilson would be an amazing signing, but i honestly cant see him leaving this window to join Newcastle, if we get prometed perhaps next season, if he goes this window i think it would be to another premier league club, in my view he will be staying at Bournmouth.

Money talks, and he hasn’t played that many games for his team. Hope we get him. A vast difference to the strikers we currently have. I have a feeling in me water this is the guy Rafa really wants. Money is not a problem. 15 million . Think of the money we would save if we get promotion. One less position to worry about.
