This Is Rafa Benitez’ Simple Message To The Players

There is a lot of talk about how Newcastle have already suffered seven league defeats this season and four of those have come in the last eight league games including the shock 1-0 reversal at 3rd bottom club Blackburn on Monday afternoon – that was hard to take.

Newcastle should have won the game since we completely dominated the first half and the game as a contest should have been over at the break if we had taken our chances – but we didn’t.

And that’s happened too many times this season which is one reason Rafa Benitez is trying to bring in another striker this  month.

Paul Dummett has been interviewed on the Newcastle web-site and he says that Rafa has told the players they must be positive:

“It’s very frustrating. The manager just said we’ve got to be positive, as we dominated the game.”

“It’s disappointing, and coming here away is a tough place to come.”

“We’ve struggled a few times I think in a few of the games where we’ve had the same situation, and we just need to finish things off when we get the chances.”

“The performance was really good – we’ve had a lot of chances and dominated the game and we haven’t got the result we deserved, but that’s football.”

“You’ve got to take your chances when you get them and finish teams off.”

Even though we have lost seven games we have won 17 and drawn only one and we have exactly the same points total of 52 as we did under Chris Hughton seven years ago when we had seven draws and only three defeats at this stage of the season.

2009-201037224117127+4477

So the way to look at it is maybe how many points we have dropped and in both cases we have dropped 23 points in the first 25 games.

Whether that’s through defeats or draws is immaterial really.

It’s nice not to be beaten too many times, but as long as Newcastle keep winning the majority of their games hopefully we will be OK and be promoted.

it’s crazy to read all the comments against Rafa, we are sitting in second place, having a wobble, which every team goes through, but we will come out of it.
Blackburn is our new Southampton, no matter how good we were we struggled to beat them, just like we seem to hold something over spurs.

We did most things right against Blackburn, there keeper was on fire ?, i am very disappointed in Collback, he offers us nothing, and i have been saying for a while now that Goofy should not be in the first team, he gets goals now and then but offers very little during games.

    let’s hope this window is a good ?? ?

We all agree Rafa is the right man for the job but playing a system that does not work when Shelvey is missing proves he is possibly not as good as we all think. Bringing on Perez to change the game is not the answer and bringing a big striker on with 5 minutes to go is a waste of time. So please argue with my views and convince me that if we had played 442 we would have not been beaten by Blackburn and Sheff Wed.

    Rotonda heights,
Mitro has been poor and watching his body language he is not happy, He has been Pardewed by Rafa. My point is Rafa has a system and does not change it even when it is clearly not working. A good manager knows how to change his tactics but Rafa seems reluctant to do this. We are going to struggle against physical teams so more bumpy roads ahead.
