Complications Arise Over One Newcastle Loan Move

Newcastle are hoping to sign Tom Cleverley on loan for the rest of the season from Everton, but like our other targets Newcastle will face competition from some Premier League clubs.

Burnley have entered the race to sign Cleverley and there could be some other clubs become interested in the 13 times capped England International.

Tom Cleverley of Everton – loan target

Rafa Benitez has to get a good central midfielder in this month as cover for Jonjo Shelvey who has been missed over the last three games.

Proof of that is that we have lost two of them and the team has looked slow with a distinct lack of creativity.

Replacing Jonjo with Jack Colback obviously results in Newcastle having to play in a different way, with Jack’s best attributes not being that he is a creative player.

There are a host of clubs after another one of our midfield targets – Chelsea’s 20 year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek with West Ham, Stoke and Brighton just three of the other clubs interested in the player.

We are also after Manchester City’s Fabian Delph, but it would appear that Tom Cleverley is Rafa’s number one cnetral midfield target.

So Burnley coming into the mix could complicate that, with Tom maybe wanting to stay in the Premier League for the rest of the season.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has said he will not allow Cleverley to move on loan until he gets cover in, but there  are good signs he is close to signing two of Manchester United’s players – Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay.

The Northern Echo are reporting today that Newcastle are hoping to be able to speak to Cleverley in the next few days and we have to hope that happens.

What is really important is that we bring in a central midfielder this January and that’s probably Newcastle’s  greatest need for the rest of the season – adequate cover for Jonjo Shelvey.

The loan move for Tom Cleverley will come with an option to buy in the summer.

What do you think?

I think if its a choice between us and Burnley then I think its in the bag but if its between say West Ham, Southampton etc it might be a harder sell

I think he would be a serious upgrade on Colback but still not the creative player that we need

Burnley is a lot closer to Everton than we are, dont be suprised if he stays in the prem and close to home with Burnley rather than coming here….Rafa is a draw ,as s the huge matchday crowd but for some ,family values and home comforts may just edge us out.

Perhaps Cleverly is man enough to follow Ritchie’s example and invest in the future….it’s the old saying “you’ve got to be in it to win it ”

Join the vision that Rafa has for NUFC and be part of making it happen…over to you Tom
