Some bad news for Newcastle tonight is that Ayoze Perez has picked up a slight injury, but it means he will not be fit enough to play for Newcastle at Birmingham City tomorrow in the FA Cup 3rd round tie.
Ayoze was expected to fill in for Mo Diame who is playing for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations, but a slight calf injury means he will not be risked by manager Rafa Benitez.
Ayoze Perez – out of the Birmingham game
This is what Rafa has said tonight:
“We are quite good in terms of injuries,” “Ayoze has a problem in his calf, but it isn’t serious and we don’t want to take any risks.”
“We have plenty of solutions,”
It may be a chance to have Dwight Gayle come into the team and play in the number 10 role.
Aleksandar Mitrovic was to start up front, but Dwight has 17 Championship goals and if he can play in the withdrawn striker role tomorrow, that would be good.
Alternatively Mitro and Gayle could switch positions and Dwight be the man up front.
That’s at least one decent solution to Perez being out injured.
