Report – Newcastle To Bid £4M For Championship Midfielder

Sky Sports are reporting today  that Newcastle are preparing to bid for 22 year-old Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn.

Ben was born in Derby and he has already appeared 27 times with one goal for Forest this season and he made his debut in the Championship back in March 2014 against Ipswich.

Since that time he has played 113 times for the club with 7 goals.

Ben Osborn – Nottingham Forest midfielder

Newcastle are not the only club interested in the player and there are a number of other clubs who have noticed his very good form this season for Forest.

Benitez is said to be impressed with the player and the Newcastle manager is willing to pay £4M for the Englishman who has played for the England  U18, U19 and U20 sides.

Ben has been a regular starter for three seasons at Nottingham Forest and over that time he has played 105 times with 7 goals so he is an experienced Championship player and could be good value for £4M.

Ben started his career at his home town club Derby County in 2002 but joined Nottingham Forest the following year and has come through the Youth Academy at Forest.

Ben has been given a contract extension this season at Forest that lasts until June of 2020.

We’ll have to wait and see if the Newcastle bid is made and then accepted by Forest – always assuming the Sky Sports report is accurate.

We should be buying with the premier league in mind. Or are we going down the old route of there maybe a few quid to be made.

Tads…I wish it was as simple as “idiots”. Still, it had a decent run.

AC…If I explain, will you take notes? Don’t want to be repeating myself 🙂

Hibbit..re the loan. That would seem to make sense, it’s plausible at least. Kind of what I was saying, it’s just a loan facility, just in case cash is needed.

If Norwich want £12-15m as is being talked about in the papers for Brady I’d say go for it.

LB is clearly an area we could improve on. As is left wing (Atsu is a RW players really).

He can play both and play both at Premier League level for that matter. It would also show some real ambition. So probably worth that figure.

I dont know anything about this Forest lad though.

I’d take Snodgrass too mind. Think he’s good for half a season here and a full season in the prem before his legs give in.

    As for other targets:

Cleverly is admittedly better than i used to give him credit for but I still dont really see him as a big asset. Delph is undoubtedly a better player but there is his injury record to be wary of.

He is good, but will he really improve our team? Will he be a great asset if we’re promoted? Although I do agree with hibbitt it’s probably just speculation.

Osborn – can’t really comment as you can’t judge a player on a performance that you may or not easily recall without watching the TV playbacks.

However Forest have delivered us two outstanding players in Darlow and Lascalles so why not a third who may have been coached in the same way and if they’re mates and know each others style of play that could be a shrewd move.

Agree RE Brady although according to the chronicle (yeah i know) but possible more reliably George Cualkin this window our only real interest is getting a couple of loan signings to get us up then start with the rebuild

As for Cleverly, never been a huge fan but on loan gives an extra option and in hopefully keeps Colback as far away as possible from the team

Probably all clubs that have less chance of being in the prem next season than us.

When i look at clips like that i notice we have too many sitting ducks in the Midfield position.

We needed more players that can created, make things happen.

He’d certainly improve the current midfield which isn’t great toonkk and it’s anybody’s guess how he’ll do at premier level, but at 4 million it’s not that much of a gamble to be honest.

Cannot wait till tomorrow, got tickets for the game 🙂 my first away game with the Toon fans (was in villa end last year at villa park) and it’s also my first FA cup game. Hope we can get a result, think it’ll be interesting to see what fringe players are used, if any. Are many off here making the trip down?

In fact I’m offering Rafa our old Dyson – first dibs before I stick it on gummers. Probably won’t suck as much as Colback but it’ll run around the pitch with more purpose. Can’t say fairer than that really. Good offer.

I see that Dippy, the Natural History Museum’s Diplodocus skeleton’s coming to the Hancock Museum.

What’s the betting that Dippy’ll come out as a fan of Newcastle United and appear on here in due course – to join the posters who want us back with the likes of Pardew, Kinnear, Carver and other dinosaurs.
