In what was another off-key performance from Newcastle this afternoon we got off to a great start with a goal from Daryl Murphy after five minutes, but Aleksandar Mitrovic picked up what looks like a very serious knee injury in the lead-up to the goal.
The Serbian striker received oxygen before he was carried off on a stretcher and we have still to hear how bad the injury is.
The Birmingham Mail report said Newcastle looked disinterested in the second half and were stuttering through the game.
Daryl Murphy scores first goal
That was the really bad news in this game.
Newcastle’s draw is not what we wanted but when we saw the team – with as many as eight changes made and even the rusty Cheick Tiote in the line-up – we thought it may be difficult to win this game.
Aleksandar Mitrovic badly injured after only 5 minutes
The good news is that we’re still in the competition although it was another lackadaisical performance from the lads according to the reports, especially in the second half.
Jonjo Shelvey will be available for the replay which is some good news and the Brentford game will now be next Saturday and the replay will be either Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week.
The other good news is that with Brighton beating MK Dons 2-0 (another clean sheet) our game at the Falmer Stadium on 28th January will be rearranged.
These games are frustrating, but let’s try to keep positive – we can still get promoted and still get through to the next round.
Howay The Lads!!
