Sels, Grant, Lazaar, Haidara, Tiote And Murphy All Start

Rafa Benitez has just named his Newcastle starting eleven for the FA Cup tie 3rd round tie at Birmingham City this afternoon and there are a lot of changes.

The subs today are Darlow, Dummett, Clark, Hayden, Gouffran, Ritchie and Gayle who are usually all starters.

So it looks like Jack Colback and Cheick Tiote are in midfield so not much creativity there and the full-backs are Yedlin and Haidara who plays his first game of the season for Newcastle and his first game in over a year.

Lazaar must be playing on the left wing and it’s a rather strange line-up with Rafa playing those players who have hardly played this season, including Haidara who hasn’t played one minute in the last year.

Let’s hope this works out!

This is what Rafa has said about this game today and his team selection:

“Mitrovic will play. He will start.” “As soon as he knew he wasn’t on the bench last Monday, he wanted to work in the gym, so we had a plan for him.”

“Everything was organised properly, and he also understands that Daryl Murphy is working hard.”

“It will be difficult to guess the team. Sometimes, it has already been difficult this season, but in this case even more, because we will play different players – and it has to be like this.”

“It is important for players who are not playing to show what they can do, but at the same time, I understand some of them maybe do not have the match fitness.”

“So, I’m just expecting them to go onto the pitch and give everything. If they play well, then fine. If they cannot, but you see the effort, you will be pleased with that.”

There’s a fairly low 60% of fans think we will win this game this afternoon.

    That’s a whole lotta changes.

    Bit surprised.

All players are ones I would like to have seen, just surprised
to see so many changes in one go.

Just hope is doesn’t lead to a disjointed performance, with
so many players not used to playing together.

Hoping for a great performance from Haidara.

M&M’s upfront. This could be a good game, two big strikers on lets just hope they get some service.

Strange team but looking forward to it – upfront Mitrovich and Murphy – interesting

Hope Hiadara gets through the game – nice too see him back

Infant the whole team and 4-4-2 hope it works and have a decent game – put pressure on the usual suspects

Look like it is Anita & Lazaar on the wings; although it could quite as easily be Yedlin & Haidara.

I like what I see to be honest. Two big men leading the line and Haidara and Tiote back. Why not a bit of direct football for a change? Let’s get at these Brummies and rough them up a bit.

Whoa! A 4-4-2 I wonder if Mitro is going to be just behind Murphy? Bit of speed on both wings and a bit of grit if Tiote shows up, hope he isnt too slow or he’ll commit some horrors ha ha.

Two ways this could go, the lads could struggle with lack of game time and cohesion and struggle. OR…

They could have a point to prove and stuff them. Here goes the latter hwtl!

Haven’t you banged this drum for ages about attacking more, we play two up top but you still moan because arma’s not here.

We could win everything under the sun with rafa but you’d still moan about something and want a McCardew/houghton clone.
