Shattering Blow To Newcastle As Mitrovic Seriously Injured

Daryl Murphy put Newcastle 1-0 up after only five minutes in the game at St. Andrews today, but Aleksandar Mitrovic was then stretchered off as he was injured in the play leading up to the goal.

It does not look good for Mitro and the striker was given oxygen on the pitch in what looks like a serious knee injury and it could even be damage to the anterior ligaments.

He picked up the injury in a collision with the home goalkeeper Adam Legzdins and it looked like a sickening injury for the 22 year-old Serbian and puts a shadow over this game which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – badly injured

Gouffran came on for Mitro and Newcastle had more chances in the first half to extend their lead but then the home side came back into the game and Jutkiewicz equalized just before the break.

The result means that the game at Brentford will now take place next Saturday, moved up from the Monday,  and the replay will be sometime in that following week.

The team Rafa started had as many as eight changes from the side that was beaten at Blackburn and it very much looked like a second eleven, but we are still in the competition with only our second draw of the season.

It could have been worse with another defeat we suppose.

Mitrovic receiving treatment from the Doctor

The injury to Mitro – which could be a season ending injury it looked so bad – puts pressure on Newcastle to bring in another striker this month.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mitro.

Aye I was thinking the same, few stitches, and a little recovery time could have him sorted in 6 weeks. 😀

Rafa says #nufc transfer plans have not changed because of Mitrovic injury. They were always in the market for more players.

Rafa on Mitro: “He has a cut in his leg.
    “And we have to wait.
“He’s been to hospital and he’ll come back then we’ll see.” #nufc

i mentioned earlier that a cut would be the best injury he could have as daft as it sounds because the other injurys are possible season ending injurys.

Depending on how bad it is, he will be raring to go again in no time, in the mean while Rafa’s job just got a bit easier, as Murphy can take the bench during Mitrovic’c enforced absence, and no one need get upset.

No beam back – so only one camera at the match – and it missed the incident

Both Colback and Tiote are being slated for their woeful displays today, unfortunately I agree, neither should start again.

Sounds like a mediocre game and lack lustre performance with Mitro injured and a replay to boot.
Meanwhile Brighton win and have no replay.

Injection of new players to boost squad and performances clearly needed
