Aleksandar Mitrovic was interviewed on the Serbian web-site Blic Sport yesterday and the report also contained a rather gruesome picture of the knee injury the 22 year-old Serbian International striker picked up in the fifth minute of the game on Saturday at St. Andrews.
The FA Cup tie eventually ended in a 1-1 draw between Birmingham City and Newcastle, but Newcastle fans were concerned it could have been a season ending injury for the very popular Serbian.
The badly gashed left knee of Aleksandar Mitrovic
Aleksandar had this to say about the deep gashes in his knee and the first unofficial prognosis is that he could be available in three to four weeks but that more tests and examinations on the knee are still necessary just to make sure everything is OK.
Here’s what Mitro has said translated into English:
“The cut is not great, but I feel good.”
“Thank God, it looks like the ligaments and the knee are fine and that they were not badly injured.”
“However, I expect additional examinations, we have to be sure that there is no damage to the knee.”
“The first forecasts are that I will be able to play in three or four weeks.” “The cut is just in an inconvenient spot.”
The Serbian International striker was injured in a collision with Birmingham goalkeeper Adam Legzdins during a goalmouth scramble, just before Daryl Murphy put the ball in the net for his first goal for the club.
The Birmingham officials stretcher Mitrovic off the field
There’s still no official word from Newcastle on Mitro’s injury although we could learn something later today from the club.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Wow, the way you pulled that one together Tsunki.
That “TIMING” shot out of nowhere…and on time. Wonderful stuff.
Has Belfast been handing out his meds again?

Comment #42So, it appears that Haidara and Elliot are approaching bench status prior to what is likely to be a few starts later on. Apparently we also have a player called Good who we signed from Australialand when he was about 10, he’s nearly 35 now but he might soon be getting near the first team…

Comment #45Tsunki…I’ll be happy with the return of those two. I know Haidara does split some opinion (Which is bizarre considering how much we all normally agree on things), but I don’t feel he’s ever had a chance to really settle in a position. Hopefully he’ll stay clear of injuries for a while.
Elliot also has proven to be a decent back up. Sels so far has failed to impress.
As for Good…stop making stuff up.

Comment #46Aye careful what you wish for Belfast ha ha.
Good thing there’s no “vote” button or we’d all suffer, it would be like the Somme. Or if there was a block button it would be like The Stadium of Plight.

Comment #48I have a theory about Curtis Good. He’s a practical joke played by Peter Beardsley. One day someone will track him down only to find that he’s just a smiley face balloon on a stick.

Comment #49I thought Haidara was finally getting near to potential when he got scythed. He had already overtaken Santon, and the crocking handed Dummett a boost. Be good to see him have a few good games here in the champo to get him going again.

Comment #50Tsunki…That would really be saying something about the state of football down under if a smiley face balloon on a stick has featured for their National team. Mind you, Peter Crouch got a load of games for England.
Have to say, seems a faultless theory.

Comment #51Aye nice to have Haidara back and Lazaar having a good showing by accounts I saw
And Elliot coming back may push Sels further away from the first team, was he as bad against Birmingham as I’ve read anyone?

Sels, by all accounts was woeful, saw one lad compare his attempts at punching clear corners as someone having an epileptic fit
Glad Elliot’s back, think him and Darlow are at their best when their under pressure for the starting spot

Comment #58Yeah have to agree Haidara has a lot to prove regarding resilience. If he pulls up in training again I fear he may be a victim of Good-Marveaux syndrome. No cure, just a single shot behind the ear with a .45.

For me at the moment he’s completely buried in the Amalfitano/good/Vuckic category when you suddenly realise just how long he’s actually been at the club and done little more so far than the odd cross
We might as well of kept sammy and played him at LB

Comment #60Whatever happened to Krul? Did he just finally get sick of the club? He really plateaued before his injury, by all accounts he’s nowhere atm. Doesn’t seem like he’s too worried about returning or even playing where he is. Odd.

Yeah I read similar about him which is concerning, certainly looking like a poor signing atm could still come back of course and he’s arrival helped Darlow I’d say
Interesting to see what happens in the Summer when Krul may well be back in the mix

Their style of plays identical!
Think the Ajax coach panned him a bit the other day, tbh another player I’d not lose sleep over if/when he goes (certain he signed an extension on the sole premise of getting a fee for him!)
He seems to of gone backwards, used to be a great shot stopper, last season when fit it looked like he had empty crisp packets for hands

Personally don’t think Krul will come back to the club and if he did can’t see how he’d walk back in infront of Darlow or Elliot, he’s been poor for us for a long time now

Comment #70Whilst I think Darlow should be No1 with Elliot as back up, I find it difficult to judge Krul over the past few seasons, the whole team was pathetic, and being a goalkeeper is difficult enough, but when you defence is none existent it becomes impossible.

I honestly have no idea what will happen with Krul when we hit the PL again Rafa has yet to have him available so unless he wants to leave (I doubt he does) I’d be surprised if he doesn’t have a look at him
I’d rather have Krul in the stocks than Elliott but Darlow is surely number 1 for now (though Rafa didn’t rate too highly so it’s hard to know where he will stand in the summer either)

I think if he really wanted to keep Krul, Sels wouldn’t of been bought in, we’d of bought a gk in on loan, imo anyway
Personally think Elliot had a season last season that easily rivalled Krul over the last couple of years
The amount of goals that went through Krul the last couple of seasons has been ridiculous and he’s the only keeper at the club who has no distribution at all, think that will be a huge issue for Rafa

Equally if he really wanted rid of Krul he wouldn’t of given him another contract before sending him to Ajax
As for Elliot being in goal I don’t rate him
On distribution though Darlows was pretty poor last season but now has improved it no reason Krul couldn’t do the same

Comment #76interesting move for these lads !!!
Newcastle youngsters Sean Longstaff, Callum Roberts and Freddie Woodman have all joined Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock on loan until the end of the season.
Rafa must have a lot of faith in Cathro

Comment #77He was only given a new contract so we received a fee for him, hence the reason it was only one year. The signing of superhands from Belgium spelt the end for Krul. There’s no hope of him coming back and jumping ahead of Darlow and Elliot.
And any player who didn’t fancy doing a season in the championship can ferk off as far as I’m concerned.

It’s Lee Clark in charge at Kilmarnock mate not I think!
TADS
I agree Krul has very poor distribution, but when he was first joining the first team he did look the part, he got poorer as the team started to freefall into oblivion.
I won’t really miss him, but won’t judge him to harshly when most team we played had a simple game of kicky in.
The Brum game showed us why we were relegated last season with Colback and Tiote giving up possession so easily and in dangerous places, and Sels flapping like a fish out of water, I was surprised we actually managed the draw.
Symptoms from last season?
Poor defence started with our poor DM.
