We reported a couple of days ago that Newcastle were keen to bring in 22 year-old Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn to the club – and there have been more reports since then to suggest Newcastle are close to bidding for the player who could cost as much as £5M.
The initial report was from Sky Sports and there was another report yesterday in the Express that Rafa wants the youngster at Newcastle.
Ben Osborn – Newcastle still keen on this player
In addition to the Express report there have been local reports that Benitez is keen on the youngster with the Nottingham Post reporting the club are expecting a bid from Newcastle for their winger.
Ben is another Englishman Rafa is after and he was born in Derby.
He has appeared 27 times with one goal for Forest this season and he made his debut in the Championship back in March 2014 against Ipswich Town.
Since that time he has played 113 times for the club with 7 goals and 17 assists.
Ben has been a regular starter for the last three seasons at Forest and he is an experienced Championship player and could be good value for just £5M.
He could also perform at the Premier League level and take the step up in class.
Ben started his career at his home town club Derby County back in 2002 as a 7 year-old but then joined Nottingham Forest the following year and has come through the Youth Academy at the club.
Osborn was given an extension on his deal this season and he is now contracted to the club until 2020.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if Rafa makes a bid for this player imminently.
