Rafa Positive On Transfer Breakthrough This Week

There’s some good news being reported in the Shields Gazette this morning that Rafa Benitez is expecting a transfer breakthrough before the game at Brentford on Saturday, which will be another difficult game for us without the creativity of Jonjo Shelvey.

Newcastle failed to win again for the third time in four games since Shelvey has been out suspended – and this time we managed a boring 1-1 draw at Birmingham City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

Newcastle are linked with Chelsea’s 20 year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek

The bad news is that we didn’t win and we therefore have another game on the schedule, but the good news is that we are still in the competition and in the draw for the 4th round in a couple of hours time.

We have lost in the 3rd round of the FA Cup in each of the last four seasons.

Rafa Benitez was asked about the transfer situation and this is what he has said as reported in the Shields Gazette:

“We were just focusing on the game on Saturday at Brentford.”

“But I will talk with Lee Charnley and see if we can get any movement or good news this week.”

Newcastle have been linked with many players including two Championship players in Forest winger Ben Osborn and today we were linked with Fulham central midfielder Tom Cairney.

We are also interested in Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a loan target and over the weekend Newcastle were strongly linked with Everton central midfielders Tom Cleverley and James McCarthy.

We are hoping Rafa can bring in a player before Saturday, but we wonder who it will be?

Cairney would be a good signing, would cost a lot to prise him away from fulham though.

I have missed most of comments on the cup game, how did Lazaar do? Nice to see Haidara back too

Charlie – You’ve obviously been keeping notes – also I presume the * next to Loftus-Cheek means loan?
I have to say in Ed’s defence he simply summarises all the rumours in the papers and online which I find very useful.

Another report that we are after Josef Martinez. He looks like a player very similar to Gayle from the professional youtube scouting assessment that I have made.

Loftus-Cheek would be good! Be shocked if no premier league club take him on though!
Permanently, I’d be thrilled if we took 3 of those Chelsea youngsters! Loftus cheek, Izzy Brown and tammy Abraham all look like future England stars to me. Solanke is meant to be the pick of their youth too! Wonder if any will ever get the chance at chelsea

on Josef Martinez- I don’t watch serie A, have never seen him play, but so far seen 2 journos, one who covers south America and another that covers Serie A absolutely pull this lad to shreds. The serie A pundit said the only way he can believe this move is that if Newcastle are hoping that he has been so bad in Italy because of the style and that his attributes fit more so the English game. Not seen any accounts rate him highly yet…

Delph on loan and Snodgrass would do me. Reckon it’d guarantee our promotion.

Josef Martinez looks like a Jamie Vardy type of player, I can not tell if he is above or below the level of the Leicester forward or if that would fit in with our squad next season. It is certainly not a requirement this season with teams sitting very deep against us. I do hope the reports are true and not just pulled out of thin air, that Rafa is considering playing with two up front again.
