High Fee Puts Newcastle Off This Transfer Target

Times reporter George Caulkin has put out a few tweets from his personal Twitter account today and one of them reveals that Newcastle did enquire about Fulham central midfielder Tom Cairney at the start of the transfer window and were quoted a ridiculous fee of £20M –  so that was the end of that interest.

His other tweet is a good one and says Newcastle are still after a number of players and that maybe our best bet is to do on loan deals in January.

Straight transfer deals may be difficult with clubs asking ridiculous prices for their players – not that that will change in the summer but there will at least be a lot more players available.

Tom Cairney – quoted £20M for this player!

Here are the tweets from George Caulkin:

Brentford also are holding out for £15M for their striker Scott Hogan and Newcastle wisely decided to drop out of the bidding for the striker, who is completely unproven at the top level in England.

Maybe the best thing to do is to bring in some Premier League players who are not getting a game at their clubs – at least they will be known quantities and there’s little risk with getting them in on loan.

That’s assuming we can do that of course.

Pay whatever it takes to bring ben Arfa back in for the rest of the season.

    No brainer IMO

With ridiculous prices being quoted for average players, we should already gave a squad good enough to gain promotion.

I am starting to think we will not sign anyone this month, not even on loan.

Can’t really blame them to be honest.

I know the prices are inflated due to the money sloshing around at the moment but for me, this is the ideal time to make some signings with one eye on the Premiership. Proven players to strengthen the squad, cement our promotion bid and prepare for the Premiership.
