Newcastle United were reported to be checking on 19 year-old Coventry City defender Cian Harries in the 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion last night in the EFL Trophy.
Well known Newcastle scout Graham Carr was there to check on the young defender and that news is being reported today in the Coventry Telegraph.
Cian Harries – Coventry City’s 19 year-old center-back
Liverpool scouts were also there last night and the Reds are thought to be the club leading the chase for the teenager, who has recently been on trial at Liverpool and was even expected to sign for them.
On 4th January this year Harries played a trial match for the Liverpool U23s team against Bangor City in a friendly game.
The 6ft 1ins center-back was born in Birmingham and came through the Academy at the Sky Blues.
He signed his first contract in July 2015 on a three year deal, but earlier this season he signed a new and improved contact which keeps him at the club through June, 2020.
Harries is of Welsh descent and has played 13 times this season for Coventry City.
Newcastle are always on the lookout for top young talent we can bring into the club and have Rafa Benitez and his coaching team hopefully bring the youngsters through to the first team on Tyneside.
