Newcastle Still Trying To Sign This Top Target

The Chronicle are reporting today that Rafa Benitez is still keen to bring in Bournemouth’s 24 year-old  striker Callum Wilson in January.

Newcastle apparently are still hoping to make a breakthrough in the transfer market this week and before the vital game at Brentford on Saturday.

It seems it would be difficult to sign the former Coventry City striker in January, but the news is that Newcastle are still trying to negotiate a deal with Bournemouth.

Callum Wilson Newcastle still trying to sign this player

Maybe former team-mate Matt Ritchie could help persuade Callum to join us and Newcastle would be willing to pay decent money for the striker.

Callum seems to fit into Rafa’s long term plans when hopefully we are back in the Premier League next season.

If we cannot get Callum this month he will likely be a top target for us in the summer – always assuming we can get promoted.

The times we have seen Callum this season he has looked as though he would be a good addition to the squad,  because he’s a good player with good speed and skill and would add to the menace up front for Newcastle.

We desperately need another striker who can regularly score goals to back up Dwight Gayle, who has been sensational for us so far this season with 19 Championship goals and he’s right at the top of the goalscoring charts.

We do need some new players to freshen up the squad, since we have looked stale and even boring over these last four games with Jonjo Shelvey out suspended.

And we simply must be promoted this season come hell or high water.

Wilson would be a great signing, only there’s absolutely no scenario I can see where Bournemouth would sell him.

The biggest signing this week might be West Ham signing Scott Hogan, to weaken Brentford!

I think Bournemouth will always struggle to hang onto their best players so I wouldn’t rule it out. Players talk to each other and it’s very likely that Richie has already told Wilson all about the club, fans & stadium etc. Bournemouth,as far as I’m aware haven’t said anything about him not being for sale.

We don’t need another fcuking dwight Gayle….we need someone who can break down park buses and put in the killer pass to Gayle or Murphy, or Mitro or Perez…Why the fcuk do we need another CF.

We need another creative midfielder and a wide man who get in behind

    IMO 🙂 🙂

You all make good points. I would have thought the chances of persuading him to move from regular starter in a mid-table Premiership team to Gayle’s understudy in the Championship is practically zero!

We need another CF because Perez has been awful for around 2 years now, Mitro is on his way out and Murphy is back up (with injury issues)

We need midfielders and wingers as well which should probably be a higher priority but doesnt mean we shouldnt look to strengthen everywhere we are weak

yes we do need more creative players but what if gayle is injured (or shattered) like mitro.

”Newcastle have been excellent in front of goal in the Championship this season. No team currently comes close to the 48 goals that Rafael Benitez’s men have scored”

    must be doing something right!

Seriously, I hate this time of year. It becomes so boring being linked to this and that player and every other player on the planet. The reality is only Rafa and Charnley know who we’re looking at and everything else is simply speculation and rumour. I’m sure some people love it and each to their own, but for me it drives me nuts. 🙂 Now, now, don’t be nasty… At least with Rafa we know he won’t just buy anybody for the sake of it, as has happened in the past. Anybody any idea how many we’ve been linked with already?
There’s only one player in the Championship worth the sort of money being quoted and that’s Knockeart imo. I’d pay the money for him, but the rest I’m not convinced. I’d make Brighton an offer they couldn’t refuse and if Hughes was a sensible price I’d take him. I don’t see we need any more after those two. That would see us walk the league. God, move over Rafa, this management lark is a doddle! 🙂

How are west ham making a 5 million offer for snodgrass? Ridiculous offer. I’d take snodgrass all day. Influences games, great free kick and goal scorer. Battling performer. Him and Ritchie either side would be great.

Wilson would be ideal. As for not playing all their games I’m sure he had injuries.

I’d also take both cleverly and mccarthy.

Job done for now then. Premotion in thd bag which it’s not right now in my opinion.

Just got tickets for the Brum replay. East stand half way. Last time I sat there we tanked Preston 6-0 so thats the replay sorted and on to Oxford!

On transfers I think the only people worth buying ,Will Hughes for example, probably won’t be available in this window .
We should keep our powder dry rather than bringing in make weights.
We have more than enough to go up.

WWSBRD @10 – I’m sure you’re right but the lad can’t be so thick not to realise we are not going to drop the league’s leading goal scorer for him although he may take a long term view.
Bobby @14 – I think it was Charlie (in the Gallowgate) posted a pretty good list the other day – if you search posts for Monday, Tuesday you should find it. Also I can’t see Brighton selling one of their best players to their promotion rivals no matter what we offer because it can’t match the money they would get in the Premiership.

“the reality is only Rafa and Charnley know who we’re looking at”.

That’s not quite true. There is Carr, Carr’s understudies, clubs & players the club have spoken to & then their contacts, agents, etc etc. Some transfer rumours are speculation, some come from reliable sources.

There are few transfers that did not start with rumours in the media. I remember then Pogba to Man Utd for £90 million was laughed at.

Whilst I’m at it, here’s some songs that are really getting up my snotter now.

‘is this a library, is this a library… ‘ Whilst I understand that our programme is probably the most substantial piece of literacy some away fans have held in their hands ever, it doesn’ t change the fact that the big green thing with goalposts is a giveaway.

‘Newcastle’s a shit hole, I wanna go home… ‘ Really? Strange how it’s the first fixture most of them look for and others cry like babies if it’ s a midweek game. It’s the party city of England and really, they love coming here.

Then they contradict themselves with our ballad ‘Don’ t take me home… ‘ Well make your bloody minds up! Either it’ s a shit hole or you don’t want to go home, but you can’t have it both ways.

Whilst little is happening, anybody else got any little narks they’d like to get off their chests? 🙂

I see you’re bored too Ancient? Hope this isn’t going to turn into a ‘what have the Romans ever done for us situation’? 🙂 Although others might have a clue, including those we might have enquired about, deep deep down, only Rafa knows who he really wants and then he tells Charnley to make it happen. By which time it no longer matters. Lightning Charnley zaps in and the deal is done. Yes, I am bored. 🙂

Hibbett, no mate, I’m sadly out of touch with our U23 and academy situations. Hoping to get back to them soon, but my health ain’t great as you know. Was going to go to the youth cup game the other night but my son had been up all night on his bloody X box and, as they love to say these days ‘I can’ t be arsed’. Let me see if I can find out though.

Surely Rafa must know a David Silva-esk type Spanish player that is looking for an opportunity to strut their stuff in the PL and would see the advantage of bedding in to the English game. A project that would see them through to semi-retirement, or a young player in the second league. We need some to create on the pitch, excitement in the stands and take the burden off Shelvey. Otherwise use Ritchie as the #10 as he really does not have the pace for playing wide, relies on quick passes to go past a man and has a decent shot. Then Gouffran could play right, with Yedlin overlapping and Lazaar would get more matches on the left wing. He seems the type of player that can create for himself rather than relying on Dummett to pass to him in space.

He still wouldnt be understudy though Rafa sells rotation and opportunities, problem has been that in terms of striker we have only had Gayle so far. If Wilson comes in he will play fairly regularly and hopefully we as a club will be looking upwards under Rafa which isnt something Bournemouth are realistically able to do

    Rafa:-

“We have been trying to get some players but their clubs are doing well and they don’t want to sell some of them.
Now we have to continue searching for something different, ones who can give us the balance that everybody is talking about.
There is no rush, but at the same time, we want to get the deals done as soon as possible.
We brought back Sammy Ameobi because we knew we were losing players and we would be difficult to do business early in January.
Hopefully, we can do it before Brentford but you never know.”

I think the player most likely to be next through the doors is cleverly on loan. It would settle our most desperate need of replacing the horrendous colback who simply hasn’t improved and his lack of pace brings out his fouls in key areas.

Bojan is being linked to Boro, the only reason I can fathom that we wouldn’t be interested, is that at 26, he wouldn’t be worth much coming to the end of a 4/5 year contract… but he wouldn’t cost much to begin with.

Glad to see Sammy might get one last chance to prove himself. He’s never lacked the talent, just consistency, but Rafa might be the man to bring the best out of him. Bolton fans are gutted to lose him, as is Rioch, who has described him frequently as unplayable in Division One. They are top as well, or thereabouts. We need somebody to go past players and Sammy can. He might not make the step up, but at Championship level he might prove to be the player we’ve struggled to buy. Obviously Rafa’s been keeping an eye on him and must fancy him to bring him back and let Roberts go out on loan. Some players are late developers, some start early and finish too soon. If he’s good enough I’m always happy to see a local lad in the team and I can’t imagine Rafa bringing him back unless he thought he could do a job for him. Interesting times.
