Rafa Benitez has given transfer update to the Chronicle today and he is still trying to get a deal done – hopefully before the important game at Brentford on Saturday.
And it seems that if Rafa cannot get a winger into the club this month he could hold onto Sammy Ameobi for the rest of the season as a backup.
Rafa can also have a look at Sammy whose contract at Newcastle runs out in June and the local lad is expected to be released.
Callum Wilson – Bournemouth striker
Rafa says the club – that would be Lee Charnley who does most of the work during the transfer windows – has talked to a number of clubs but they are unwilling to sell because they are doing well.
Maybe Bournemouth and Callum Wilson is one example who he’s talking about?
This is what Rafa has said to the Chronicle today:
“We have been trying to get some players but their clubs are doing well and they don’t want to sell some of them.”
“Now we have to continue searching for something different, ones who can give us the balance that everybody is talking about.”
“There is no rush, but at the same time, we want to get the deals done as soon as possible.”
“We brought back Sammy Ameobi because we knew we were losing players and it would be difficult to do business early in January.”
“Hopefully, we can do it before Brentford but you never know.” “Sometimes you start talking with clubs and it takes time.”
“We are working hard and trying to find some players.”
Newcastle are still wanting to sign Callum Wilson as we reported earlier today – and he certainly would be an excellent acquisition for us this month.
We have to get back on track very soon and start racking up those wins so we can get promoted via one of the two automatic promotion spots.
