Rafa Benitez Working Hard On Signing A Player This Week

Rafa Benitez has given transfer update to the Chronicle today and he is still trying to get a deal done – hopefully before the important game at Brentford on Saturday.

And it seems that if Rafa cannot get a winger into the club this month he could hold onto Sammy Ameobi for the rest of the season as a backup.

Rafa can also have a look at Sammy whose contract at Newcastle runs out in June and the local lad is expected to be released.

Callum Wilson – Bournemouth striker

Rafa says the club – that would be Lee Charnley who does most of the work during the transfer windows –  has talked to a number of clubs but they are unwilling to sell because they are doing well.

Maybe Bournemouth and Callum Wilson is one example who he’s talking about?

This is what Rafa has said to the Chronicle today:

“We have been trying to get some players but their clubs are doing well and they don’t want to sell some of them.”

“Now we have to continue searching for something different, ones who can give us the balance that everybody is talking about.”

“There is no rush, but at the same time, we want to get the deals done as soon as possible.”

“We brought back Sammy Ameobi because we knew we were losing players and it would be difficult to do business early in January.”

“Hopefully, we can do it before Brentford but you never know.” “Sometimes you start talking with clubs and it takes time.”

“We are working hard and trying to find some players.”

Newcastle are still wanting to sign Callum Wilson as we reported earlier today – and he certainly would be an excellent acquisition for us this month.

We have to get back on track very soon and start racking up those wins so we can get promoted via one of the two automatic promotion spots.

Glad to see Sammy might get one last chance to prove himself. He’s never lacked the talent, just consistency, but Rafa might be the man to bring the best out of him. Bolton fans are gutted to lose him, as is Rioch, who has described him frequently as unplayable in Division One. They are top as well, or thereabouts. We need somebody to go past players and Sammy can. He might not make the step up, but at Championship level he might prove to be the player we’ve struggled to buy. Obviously Rafa’s been keeping an eye on him and must fancy him to bring him back and let Roberts go out on loan. Some players are late developers, some start early and finish too soon. If he’s good enough I’m always happy to see a local lad in the team and I can’t imagine Rafa bringing him back unless he thought he could do a job for him. Interesting times.

Tsunki, I understand why Jib might be missing if people complained, but why would Jail go missing? I’ve been preoccupied lately so missed a fair bit. Going back through posts seems a bit pointless so I do miss things. Did somebody upset him, or complain about him, or did he say he’d simply decided to do one? Not one to spread rumours BUT, I heard they’d eloped. Any truth in that rumour? 🙂

Ron, arrested for hooliganism? I think my eloped may be closest to the truth. They do say opposites attract after all. 🙂

    Cup Games.
Still think any cup run, extended as well, must cause us problem on the promotion front unless Rafa does a “Bournemouth” and plays a full team of “reserves”.
He has stated he wants to win the cup games and does not want a cup run to effect the promotion push.
I expect we might just win the replay next week – then what happens after that – does Rafa play “the reserves” or is he tempted to play one or two or three of the “first eleven”.

For this season, note this season only, I would not have a problem with the club sacrificing cup games so the priority is on the league.

Bobby you asked earlier if anybody else wanted to rant 🙂
Well, I don’t know what it’s like where you sit but mine is during matches the number of people who constantly go back and forward to their seats and you all have to stand to let them past. The same ones arrive late and leave early at half time and full time. I realise some people have medical conditions or a full bladder from drinking but at least wait for a natural break in play before pushing past everybody – rant over 🙂

Pardew’s PB. When you say ‘took them out for the sake of blog peace’ , I assume you don’ t mean for a friendly peace making pint? Reminds me so much of a priceless peace of comedy on the show ‘Ideal’, when Cartoon Head misunderstood Johnny Vegas’ character and blew the mackems head off whilst on acid. Hilarious.

Marton, doesn’t it just drive you mental. For the Wolves cup game a family arrived ten minutes before half time. All stand. Five minutes later, they decided to go somewhere – bar I presume. All stand. Then, five minutes after second half ko, back they came. All stand. Not happy with that, fifteen minutes before the end they left. All stand. Or so we thought. Five minutes later they were back. Makes ye wonder why they bothered!

Martoon. My phone keeps telling me what I want to write, when I’m pretty sure I know exactly what I do want to write. (it just did it again but I spotted it this time). Maybe it will eventually learn that when I write Martoon, it’s because I want to write Martoon and not Marton. There, another thing that bugs me! 🙂
