Newcastle Finally Close On One Outgoing Deal

Spanish club Sporting Gijon seem close to agreeing a deal for Cheick Tiote so the central midfielder can finally leave Newcastle after two years of trying.

The only hold-up appears to be the wages Cheick is asking for, but that seems like it can be ironed out.

Cheick Tiote – close to leaving Newcastle – again

In fact Sky Sports Spanish reporter Guillem Balague, who knows Rafa well,  has tweeted this morning that it seems like it will be going through.

The 30-year-old may even be allowed to leave Newcastle on a free transfer so the club can get his wages off the wage bill since he doesn’t have a future at the club under manager Rafa Benitez.

Rafa was clear at the start of the window that he didn’t want to lose any players except for Cheick:

“We don’t want to sell anyone if it’s not necessary,” said Benitez. “The only one we are open to selling is Cheick.”

Cheick joined us from FC Twente in the summer of 2010 for £3.5M after we had been promoted back to the Premier League and he was very good for the first couple of years but then never quite back to that form.

The 52 times capped Ivory Coast international can still do a job for Sporting in the Spanish League.

What do you think?

Maybe we needed to sell before we buy? Not necessarily a cashflow thing, but due to our squad numbering and registration in the league? I’m sure if Jib was around he could give me a list of who was registered and home-grown status and the like. That’s my excuse for why we haven’t made any move yet, at least 🙂

I love Cheick Tiote, but even I’d have to admit he doesn’t stack up in reality against the lofty esteem I’ve held him in. LOL. Still, sad to see him go. At his best he was splendid, occasionally magnificent, even if it was all too rarely, and the last two years, well, the less said the better.

The only hold up appears to be his wages.
    Well, that’s a surprise.
Whatever happens, pay him off and get rid.

shelvey really will seem like a new signing. a team with shelvey instead of colback is transformed at a stroke.

Never thought I’d say it but hell I miss Jib.
Jail also. Where are you guys?

Oops look like Atsu is leaving, he is in talks with a Turkish side. They have offered him a permanent move. Chelsea is discussing terms etc.
Now I understand the rumour that we are looking for a winger. After only playing six times for the first team looks like he is off.

Don’t forget Tiote has his 2 wives to support 🙂
Seriously this should free up his wages and a squad place.

Just to put this out there….when people say they miss Jib…do they really mean they’re just too lazy to use Google themselves?

You don’t need to answer, just use ones words carefully and watch what you wish for.

On thread…It’s well past Tiotes time at this club. Based on his few cameos this season, I don’t see what he offers us in the slightest, so surely even if wages are a stumbling block, we should just cut our losses?

Atsu can’t be talking to any one as he on a season long loan and we have option to buy at a set price so I recon it a none story
