Rafa Benitez has commented on the stranger case of Cristian Atsu potentially leaving this month to go on loan to Istanbul Basaksehir, who are currently top of the Turkish League.
There have been reports for the last couple of days coming out of Turkey suggesting the club are in negotiations with Chelsea for the player and that the negotiations are at an advanced stage at the moment.
Rafa was asked today in the lead up to the game at Brentford tomorrow afternoon about the 24 year-old Ghanaian International and whether he would be leaving Newcastle in January.
Rafa Benitez talks to Cristian Atsu on the sideline
This was the response from Rafa:
“No chance.” “I am in contact with the three players in Africa and especially Atsu.”
“I will tell you now that he is really pleased and really happy here.” “We have the player on loan with an option.”
“Nothing has changed, the player is happy, we have the control and a very good relationship with Chelsea.”
“So everything is fine.”
Cristian has made a total of 18 appearances for the first team this season with 3 good goals.
Atsu has indicated many times he would be delighted to sign on permanently for the club, with Rafa Benitez expected to make a decision on whether to take up the option to buy Atsu in the summer.
