Is This Newcastle’s Starting Eleven For Brentford?

We take a shot at naming Rafa Benitez’ starting eleven for each game and it’s certainly not easy to get it right.

We will have the FA Cup 3rd round replay on Wednesday night at St. James’ Park so we expect Rafa to revert to his more regular players tomorrow at Brentford and in the  usual 4-2-3-1 formation.

Here’s the side that could start the game tomorrow afternoon at Griffin Park:

Darlow
Anita Lascelles (c) Clark Dummett
Colback Hayden
Ritchie Perez Gouffran
Gayle

That looks like 8 changes from the side that started the game at Birmingham City last Saturday with only Lascelles, Colback and Anita starting last week.

We are assuming Perez is fit to start tomorrow.

What would your team be for tomorrow’s game?

    Rafa bingo,
    Darlow
    Yedlin Lascelles Clarke Dummet
    Ritchie Hayden Anita The Gouff
    Perez
    Gayle
Surely he can’t pair Hayden and Colback again.

Colback is awful. We won’t get promoted with him in the team.

Welcome back. I don’t even know what injury Perez had? But aye we look a little light due to ACoNs…wouldn’t surprise me to see Lazaar play tomorrow on the wing

And I reckon it’ll be Colback and Hayden again…Christ I don’t want to go back to the Anita CM days

At least he can play a forward pass, I honestly thought after the Sheff Wed game he’d switch it round and especially after the Forest game.

If ed’s team is played we are kippered.

    We need this:

    Darlow

    Lascelles – Clark – Dummet

    Yedlin – Hayden – Anita – Lazaar

    Ritchie – Gayle – Gouffran

We need pace in the team and Clark to play it out.

It is pretty clear that 4-2-3-1 depends on having a sit back MF who can pick out a telling forward or through pass.
Colback , Anita , Hayden , and Gouffran all have their limitations in this function .
The player with the best eye for a pass other than Shelvey or Ritchie is Haidara !
I wonder if Rafa has noticed this in training and is tempted to give him a run out in midfield after his valiant 70 minutes against Birmingham ?

If Anita, Dummett, Colback and Perez start then it’s a nailed on defeat as there’s at least four costly errors lurking between them. If only two of these unfab 4 start then we might just scrape a draw. Gouffran & Ritchie are not exactly pulling up trees either.

I actually cannot think of a starting XI (without Shelvey) that could win at Brentford, so I hope Rafa can. Here’s my best shot using 4-4-1-1..

    Darlow

Any 4 not including Anita or Dummett

Any 4 not including Colback or Tiote or Perez

    Gayle

    Murphy

I wonder why he takes so long with the subs, maybe because he feels that if he changes it too early he’s kind of showing he might have been wrong in his selection and doesn’t want to show that.

I like that team, but I think Colback will keep his place in midfield and put his poor performances down to a lack of match practice.

    ——Lazaar—Gouffran—Ritchie
    ————Colback—Hayden
    Dummett—Clarke—Lacselles—Anita

Tbh I don’t think he’d do a better job than either Colback or Hayden

He did have a little spell a few seasons ago when Cabaye was injured in central midfield I think, but other than that he’s been pretty crap there.

Lindis @25…cheers, bud. I’d actually forgot about Murphy so maybe a 4-4-2 might be better….but i pray Collback is not paired with Hayden.

We deffo need to play with Yedlin and Lazaar, though, for speed.

    However, in Rafa we trust!
