There is rather dramatic news tonight in the Mail that Rafa Benitez would like to resign Andros Townsend at Newcastle and it seems that Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce may be open to the deal.
The question could be whether Andros Townsend is open to the deal with Newcastle well positioned at the top of the Championship maybe he would agree to come back to Newcastle.
Andros Townsend and Rafa Benitez – had great relationship
Certainly when Rafa was coaching Andros over the last two months of last season Andros was in the best form of his career and he was a star for Newcastle and finished second in our Player of the Season poll to Rob Elliot.
Andros has been nowhere near the form he showed at Newcastle at Crystal Palace this season, but maybe he will now realize that with a world-class manager coaching him he can reach his potential, which has always been huge.
And with Sam Allardyce not making a good start at Crystal Palace with a 3-0 defeat at West Ham today he needs the money to sign other players this month to as he tries to save Palace from relegation.
We’re not sure how accurate these reports are, but it wouldn’t surprise us at all if Rafa does wants to sign the winger again, because it was obvious he knew exactly how to get the best out of the England International.
Andros would be a good acquisition for us if we can him back in for £13M and he can score goals too.
Some fans will not want him back because he left us when we were in trouble, but we think that most fans would welcome him back.
Let’s find out.
Would You Take Andros Townsend Back At Newcastle?
- Yes (85%, 7,647 )
- No (15%, 1,377 )
Total Voters: 9,024
Whoops I had “win” and “lose” initially in the poll – how daft can you get?
What do you think about Townsend maybe coming back to Newcastle?
Comments welcome.

8mill for Townsend? Really? We’d make a 5mill profit on loaning him for half a season

Palace paid £13m for Townsend and he hasn’t exactly been a success for them so if nobody else’s in for him, I’d expect to hear we’ve paid less or the same at most. Buy that depends on whether there’s any competition for his signature.

Comment #83I’d have Townsend back. In a gibbet cage or stocks, left for footballing reasons and an extra 20K a week saying he owed us, throwing rotten veg at him would be ample pay back for me!

Was Sissoko on the loyalty panel too? Sissoko would’ve added some of his wisdom too maybe along with Cabaye?

I was thinking 8 Mil too. It is probably too low, but would feel nice getting him back with a bit of a profit to boot.

Comment #87……an extra 20 k a week. Forget it then. We won’t match that. Bit harsh though rubbishing a bloke who gave his all, and was being offered epl football, a return to London and friends and family, the opportunity to keep his international career alive, and an extra 20k a week.

Comment #88things to be thankful for:
1. winning in a week where both brighton and reading lose
2. albeit injuries, they are in a month we can do something about it (signing another good striker, with mitro and gayle to come back is mouthwatering)
3. the mackems being humbled, again, at home

Comment #89@Legolas: I think we’re on the same page. I’d have much rather he stayed, but in my eyes he had joined a squad that had already given up hope and shouldn’t be held accountable for the actions of the many.
Plus, imagine him and Ritchie bombing down the flanks!

Comment #90Didn’t know about the wages, that along with Hib’s belief (probably right) that it is just a rumor, could be two big problems. But hey, besides the win, what else do we have to talk about.

Comment #94It’s fine saying we should go for this player, or that player, but most of them simply aren’t available. Clubs don’t generally sell in January because they need them to either keep them up or get them higher. Most of those people mention are simply not available or won’t drop down a division. PL wages are one problem for any Championship club and a huge gamble if the dreaded happens and we don’t get straight back up. With the money in the PL even average players earn silly money. Most of them would rather earn bigger money at smaller clubs. Very few PL players would even consider dropping down a league. Look at the Chinese situation right now. Players bailing out to go play in a shyte league for huge money. We can’t match that and frankly, the Chinese league is heading for disaster and bankruptcy in the long term.
Andros is a good player and if we can get him at the right price, I doubt we’ll find better this window. We need a winger. Not many for sale this window. Can we, as a Championship club, really let that chance slip by? Not for me.

Comment #99there is no loyalty in football.
he can do a job for us bring him back.
all that matters is being back in the prem if townsend can help us get there so be it.

Comment #101It’s a big leap the he’d drop down but we need that pace and running at defenders. Him and Richie either side. Yes please.
I’d be happy with snodgrass as well. We need quality. Both offer that.
Can we please also invest in a striker and central midfielder. Let’s not throw this away now. 20 games to go not including cup games. Let’s start building on this not gamble on having enough… for pity sake let’s be sensible.

Comment #102Maybe it is just me, but I doubt that I am the only worried that we are not good enough presently to guarantee automatic promotion. Granted, I watch with my eyes closed and the volume down too often.

Comment #103Loan for the rest of the season with an option to buy maybe, and send Tiote the other way for the last few months of his contract?
Palace have good attacking options, but obvious problems defensively.

Comment #104My opinions aren’t based on whether it’s a genuine option or not. If it’s not, it’s not. No different from the other thirty-odd players we’ve been linked with is it? It might well be rubbish paper talk, but the discussion is basically whether we’d want him back or not? We’ve discussed sillier stories like Cleverley etc who I didn’t want and said so. As I said earlier, if he’s available at the right price and is happy to rejoin, then I personally would take him back. If he’s not, he’s kept the blog going for a long while single handed. At the end of the day, it’s down to Rafa innit? He’ll know if he’s available and if he wants him back. The rest is just us lot having fun. 🙂

Comment #107Townsend’s agent wisely placed a relegation clause into his contract.
He chose to enforce it.
He’s from London and been on 9 six month loans all over the place.
Yeovil Town
Leyton Orient
MK Dons
Ipswich Town
Watford
Millwall
Leeds Utd
Birmingham
QPR
As far as he was concerned it was just another six month spell at yet another club.
The fact we actually made a £1million profit on the deal was our good luck.
Loyalty schmoyalty – nobody has ever shown him any – least of all Spurs who he was with from the age of nine.

Comment #108In all my years of watching football I don’t ever remember seeing nine minutes of added time, the second half never kicked off till nearly ten past four.
