Rafa Delivers News On Injuries – Gayle Has Hamstring Problem

There was some bad news for Newcastle with Dwight Gayle having picked up a hamstring injury today, so he will likely be out a number of weeks, exactly how long we will not know maybe for a couple of days.

Rafa has given an update on the injuries after the game,  but he couldn’t say too much and we’ll have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest to see what the prognosis is for Gayle (hamstring) , Hayden (groin)  and Anita (ankle).

Rafa Benitez – three injuries picked up today

After the game Rafa Benitez was asked if he as update on the injuries and this is what he said as reported in the Chronicle:

“Not too much. With the three of them we’ll have to wait, the doctor told me we will have to check tomorrow.”

“Obviously to make substitutions is not good news.” “But in the end we had to do it.”

“With all three of them – we had to make the substitutions.”

“It was a bad tackle on Anita and it was his ankle, Hayden it’s his groin and Gayle it’s his hamstring.”

We’ll have to hope that Anita’s ankle ligaments are not damaged, otherwise he could be out for some time.

I have a suspicion that Gayle may have had a training mishap which was kept under wraps – with Rafa telling him to give it his best shot and to come off as soon as he felt anything – hence the lack of consternation by the coaching team.

We now need some key signings. Evem if they are just 6 month contracts or loans to begin with. We have shelvey and colback for mf and thats it. Mitro and gayle are out for a little while at least. We need a striker and a couple of mfs this month to get through.

    Bambams
Ashley and Charnley were at Griffin Park today.
I would imagine that Rafa will be staying down South this evening for a council of war with the other 2 .

Bambams, Ashley has given Rafa free reign to buy and sell as he sees fit. He’s deserved the stick in the past, but if we don’t buy its because players aren’t available. Giving Rafa free reign means Rafa is responsible and unlike last season, where they bought simply because the money was there, Rafa won’t waste it. If he can’t get who he wants, he’ll wait until he can. He’s made that clear so many times – the money is there if he can get who he wants. Players work hard to get to the PL and see it as a huge risk to gamble that by stepping down. You can’t blame them either. This has nothing to do with Ashley, it is entirely in Rafa’s hands. Let’s see what he can produce from his own magic hat, but he won’t gamble on paying ott for average players. And nobody wants to sell. Would we sell? Not a chance. Too much to lose and that works both ways. Be patient and hope Rafa can do something, but he’s made it clear it’s decision only and nothing to do with Ashley.

Hope to see Murph get a shot up front now. He’s proven at this level and has improved greatly year on year. Although Rafa will probably choose Perez.
