33-year-old Daryl Murphy got his second goal in as many games for newcatsle and the striker seems deadly in the ait and it will be Daryl who will come in to replace Dwight Gayle who will be out for a few games – exactly how many we don’t know.
But Aleksandar Mitrovic is also out injured at the moment, so Daryl will get a few starts and if he can keep scoring like he has in the last couple of games he could become the new hero on Tyneside.
Certainly Rafa has always praised both Daryl’s experience and his professionalism while he’s been at the club and he hasn’t played too many games.
Daryl Murphy heads home the winner at Brentford
Rafa says he’s delighted for the Irishman as the manager sadi this to the local press after the match this afternoon:
“For somebody who has so much experience at 33 in this division, he was always a very good example for the others. He was very professional.”
“Everybody praised him last week because of the way he scored the goal and the way he worked.”
“We watch him in training every day and his attitude has been perfect.” “He has been training really well.”
“I am really pleased for him and the team. When you have such a professional and somebody who has possibilities to score, you are even happier for him.”
We have to remember Daryl has played for the last five seasons in the Championship for Ipswich Town and in the 2014-2015 season he scored 27 goals in 48 appearances and last season he scored 10 goals in 27 appearances so he knows where the net is.
And today’s match-winner was a perfect cross from Ayoze Perez from the left that was brilliantly headed home by Daryl.
Lete’s hope the lads practice getting those crosses into the box next week in training.
