This Player’s The Leader At Newcastle

We have been very impressed with Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles for both his play on the field and his obvious leadership skills both on and off the pitch.

The 23 year-old is young to be captain of a club as big as Newcastle, but he’s taken it in his stride and works very well with Rafa Benitez who seems to trust the lad implicitly.

Jamaal’s competitive attitude is first class.

Rafa Benitez and Jamaal Lascelles

It seems like it’s nothing but the very best for Jamaal as he had this to say in the Chronicle today about the Championship:

“It’s very physical and I have always said it’s about who turns up and wants it more on the day.”

“As was shown last week, you can keep possession and play pretty football but if the other team are resilient and they catch you with a free-kick or corner.”

“You have to be on your job and anybody can win in the Championship.”  “So it is my job, and a few others, to make sure we are on it and giving our all.”

“We’re looking forward to it, we have prepared the way we’d do so for any game.” “We have beaten them before and we can beat them again.”

“We can’t control what other teams do. We have to focus on ourselves but if teams around us are dropping points that’s in our favor.”

“We were happy with that result (QPR win over Reading) .” “We aren’t satisfied with the position we are in now.

“We want to be top and we want a gap.”  “And we know what we have to do to get there, we just have to put the work in on match days.”

That’s what you want to hear from the captain – nothing but the very best – and yes we should be aiming to win the Championship this season, just like we did with the massively under-rated Chris Hughton seven years ago.

We need to tighten up that defense so we can have more clean sheets and then more wins.

Simple isn’t it?

🙂

Quite right Rafa, let’s rebuild that gap, if only between us and 3rd place.

    Mark Douglas:
    Perez in the number ten?

“Take this as just a whisper but sounds like it could be Ayoze Perez playing as the sort-of number ten today, in behind Dwight Gayle. Not confirmed but I don’t suppose there are too many other options out there for Rafa Benitez.”

Spurs doing the biz Jane, in answer to your question. 🙂 They are good to watch when they’re on form – like when Sissoko’s not playing.

Just looking at nufc.com’s picture of the stand behind the goal the toon fans will be occupying this afternoon.. A 1000 capacity standing terrace. Wish we could have something similar in the lower tier behind both goals at SJP! Might sort the atmosphere out a bit…

Needs must I suppose, but not the correct signal to Perez in his current state… ‘It’s ok that you’ve been playing crap and looking like a wet weekend…you’ll still play.’

Ron, this league just doesn’t suit him one bit. Gets roughed up too easily and even his body language tells you who doesn’t like it out there. Can’t see Barcelona wanting him now can you? 🙂

Sing, we need to make level seven safe standing and pack it with fans willing to make a racket. That lower roof is ideal acoustics and imagine the noise if it was full. Stick the away fans outside with a big screen to watch.

Seeing a standing terrace like the old leazes (after the roof came off ) and gallowgate behind the goals with seating above would be quite something .
Years spent under the scoreboard were my best memories

The fact that reading and Leeds are seriously closing the gap and their fans are starting to dream should give our lads a kick up the arse. You simply cannot take your foot off the gas for one second. You have to do the basics of winning 50/50’s and wanting it more, then you can concentrate on playing the football

    Watching spurs first half
Players flying around off the ball ,pushing ,organised ,set up
    Walker rose overlapping..
If Chelsea slip this is the team who will win the prem this year .

James, been to Wembley with Newcastle a few times, going back to 1974 and not seen us win once. The last thing we need is to go there again to try and get promoted. We need to step it up this second half of the season and guarantee it.

Really like the Spurs team and their ethos,…apart from Le Sulk of course! Don’t want them to succeed too much, only because Sissoko doesn’t deserve to be in the champions league after the way he behaved with us.
    I’m not bitter though! 🙂

I was hoping he’d play Murphy and Gayle today. I’d be rather disappointed if Perez starts. I’d even try Ritchie or Gouffran in that role ahead of him.

Time to show we aren’t a 1 man team but theres a good chance we wont pick up much today. At Least Shelvey is back next game get us ticking again.

We will go up and I for one cant wait too see what team Rafa will bring in. Love how he likes pace with Atsu and Yedlin just hoping he brings in an actual flair player for the number 10 spot.

I may be in the minority but don’t rate Lascelles at all. Prone to too many slip ups, even today he was ball watching when Vibe got in behind him, left him for dead and equalised. Clark is by far the better CB.
