How Newcastle Compare With 2009-2010 Season

Newcastle are tracking very closely to Chris Hughton’ side after 26 games played in the Championship with the good 2-1 win at Brentford yesterday.

In both cases the team have 55 points with our goal difference this season a couple of goals better than seven years ago.

With 18 wins this season Newcastle have more wins than any other club in the top four English leagues.

Rafa Benitez – at Brentford yesterday

Here’s the comparison – it’s very close.

When you look at those statistics it puts our recent slump in perspective. Hopefully its back to winning ways now and the chasing pack can have thier slumps. Leeds appear to be the chasing team to watch out for since Monk took over.

Chris Hughton was a decent motivational coach with a better squad that almost picked itself, and Benitez is an accomplished manager who can make his more average squad perform to their abilities. The results are comparable but the methods are markedly different IMHO.

Hibbit if he was only here four months then why would you expect his undying love and to drop into the second division with us when he had an England career in the process of revival?

Regarding the previous threads comments, posada, you make some valid and interesting points about townsend, however, based on his performances for us with Rafa I still feel we should sign him up if we can.

How long had Beardsley and Solano been playing for us? I suppose it’s down to a perception of the circumstances .

Hibbit and your point is? He clearly enjoyed his time at the club but wanted to play for England and felt he should stay in the Prem so that is the choice he took. Can’t blame him really. When watching the games last season he was the only player wanting the ball. So called star players like sissokho and Gini would hide or get the ball and pass it off instantly. Townsend would find space get the ball and get his head Up trying to make something happen. For that alone I would have him back
