Report – Newcastle To Bid For This Creative Midfielder

The Chronicle is reporting today that Newcastle are still interested in signing Fulham’s 25 year-old creative midfielder Tom Cairney and are likely to go in with an offer for him soon to test the waters.

Certainly Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic does not want to lose his star player and he has said that many times –  and Fulham are now rumored to be willing to offer Tom a new deal to get him to stay at Craven Cottage.

However, the wages will hardly be close to what Newcastle will be able to offer the player if he agrees to join us on Tyneside.

Tom Cairney – Fulham’s 25 year-old midfielder

Newcastle were said to be initially quoted a price of £20M for his services but that price has seemingly gone down to between £8M and £10M – which seems a lot more reasonable.

There had been conflicting reports over the last week or so on whether Newcastle were still interested in signing the playmaker and the answer to that seems to be yes.

The report is that the player is aware of Newcastle’s interest and Newcastle could test Fulham’s resolve with a bid.

Tom was born in Nottingham and started his career at Leeds United Youth Academy before joining Hull City back in 2007.

Six years later he joined Blackburn Rovers in 2013 where he stayed for just a couple of years before joining Fulham.

Tom has played for the Scotland U19 and U21 youth sides and qualifies to play for either England or Scotland because of his Scottish father and English mother.

In his career so far he has played 240 games with 29 goals and 37 assists.

We think this lad would be an excellent signing for Newcastle this month – if we can get him – but he’s worth £10M to us.

Comments welcome.

I reckon its going to take more than that this season Ron, I would love to equal or exceed CHs 102 points.

just don’t think he’s worth the risk at 13m the price palace paid us
or an extra 20k a week wages palaces gave him

Have you ever put one positive comment on here?

Regardin Townsend, a mackem supporting mate reckons they are looking at him for a loan deal too. Don’t think they have the readies myself, so I don’t think it will happen. We should attempt to sign him just to save the ignominy of wearing that awful shirt though!

I don’t concern myself with thinking about the NUFC finances it’s pretty meaningless to me

Townsend is a good player and would certainly improve our squad plus I enjoyed seeing him play for us

On a completely unrelated note, I was in the Crown Posada the other night for the first time in years. Still a cracking little pub, even though its ran by a Smoggies fan these days.

just think he had his chance and for the kind of money being talked about there’s better out there

Townsend made a big fuss of saying how much he owed us and then ferked off at the very first chance, not to Arsenal, Spurs or even WHam but to Crystal Palace for foitballing reasons.

So we’d need 47 points more – if my maths is correct. It seems a lot to ask at the moment!

Of course, if we manage to buy/loan a couple of decent players in this window and Gayle returns to fitness soon, who knows!

Agreed, it is a big ask, but I would love it to happen. If we don’t but still go up, I will be happy, it’s a nice ambition, but not necessarily a needed one.

There may be better out there but are there parent clubs willing to sell and if so are they willing to come here and even more importantly……will they be good enough for the prem?
Im not having a go by the way, i understand the feeling of betrayal ,i felt the same when he left , especially after he was saying the right things about the club ,now though ,i just think he would be ideal ,proven at this level and prem level, good worker and Rafa likes him, i reckon him Ritchie and Gayle as a front 3 ,with Shelvey supplying the ammo in this league will be a tough ask for any defence, in the prem it would work too… not trying to change your mind either, just explaining my view of it.

Interesting that there is a bit of a common theme with bloggers, in regards to painting Shelvey out, as being a player that isn’t proven at Premier League level. Yet, Townsend has 2 months of form at PL level, and that’s more than good enough.

Shelvey has performed in a lot more games at Premier League level than Townsend has.

Not wishing to be pedantic regarding points required to reach 90, we already have 55.

We need another 35, 11wins and 2 draws perhaps.

I agree another 45 points would be pushing it..

Murphy now looks like a snip!
Hanley held us big time in the last half hour and Lazaar is showing signs of improvement. Jesus will also turn out o be a stellar signing – full house!

Tom Cairney is well worth £15M IMO (but not my own money). In the past 60 matches he has scored every 4.5 games. Although the low number of assists does make me wonder what he has been doing for the other 3.5 matches.

I do wish on match days folk would wait until the game starts before slagging off players.

They really look foolish at times.

Yesterday’s prematch favourite targets for condemnation were Perez, Colback and Murphy.

Paradoxically those 3 combined against the run of play to create one of the most valuable goals this season so far !

Yesterday – got out of Jail didn’t see the game but listening on the radio was hell and reading reports sounds like Darlow was our star player again as our defence went to sleep time and time again letting the opposition in behind us.

also sounds like Perez had a better game of late – but worrying that our midfield created Sweet FA again.

Hopeully RAFA can bring in Cairney or someone like him

And I logged last week that we have became a One-trick pony in Gayle and relying on him to score our goals was worrying in-case he got injured.

My worries came to fruition yesterday and hope Murphy can deliver over the next month as it is going to be hard getting positive results without Gayle

If Ron is correct that 90 points are required for automatic promotion, that is at least second place, and his statistics bear that out, then we need 35 points from the next 20 games.
That is an average of 1.75 points per game, we are currently running at 2.1points per game.
If we win just over half our remaining games, 11 out of 20, draw a couple more, we will have 90 points.
There is no need to panic, keep the faith, and don’t, don’t believe all you read in newspapers…

Jib just because a player does one good thing in a match does not make them a good player. Coldback is so limited he is a clear hinderance to the side I have watched him enough to be able to make that opinion prior to KO.

Also he only passed the ball out wide to Perez which is a fundamental. Perez played an outstanding ball for the goal and deserves the plaudits not coldback.

Cairney seems to fit the plan.
Under 26 in a team going nowhere and looking to play for a bigger team with the opportunity of being in the Premiership.
Better wages and lower cost of living than in the grimy capital.
Most of his clubs have been in the north and possibly with Scottish family nearby ( Jib will advise further ) he could a Northern Soul rather than a Southern softie.

Played instead of Colback and alongside Shelvey that might be the balance we need to secure midfield, reduce pressure on the defence and provide an attacking platform for the widemen and strikers .

    Crises over or is it??

Injuries to gayle Anita and hayden mitro rule them oyt for a few weeks. No sign of badly needed reinforcements on the left wing or in the middle

On the flip side shelvey is back. Murphy and perez might provide the firepower and we are top of the table again!!!

Jin every report has coldback constantly giving away possession and sloppy in the tackle which is pretty standard. You can’t just focus on individual moments just like you can’t scout on YouTube. Jeez you would think I was a premiership player is I take a few clips of me in the garden!!
