James McCarthy Now Favorite To Join Newcastle

Wonder if there’s any significance in lots of bets coming in on James McCarthy moving to Newcastle – we hope there is some significance there,  because James would be a terrific buy for us.

And it’s long term too,  because James has lots of experience in the Premier League.

We certainly need to get another central midfield player in this month – if at all possible.

James McCarthy – now 2/1 on SkyBet to join Newcastle

Here’s the information as put out by Chronicle Live today.

James has made 95 total Premier League appearances for Wigan and Everton and he’s certainly available if Rafa Benitez can persuade him to take the drop down a division for a few months.

The Chronicle had reported on Saturday that we had been offered 9 players on Friday and one of them was of great interest to the club – maybe that was James McCarthy?

Hope so.

Not sure how much he would cost but he would be a strategic buy for us and if we cannot get him in January Rafa could still go after him this summer.

He has played 123 times for Everton with 5 goals but has been out of favor since Ronald Koeman joined the club and he seems to have no future at the Toffees.

James was born in Glasgow and has played 41 times for the Republic of Ireland and grew up supporting Celtic as a child.

Update – 10:30 pm – the latest odds from SkyBet that Newcastle will sign James McCarthy have shortened to 10/11 odds – with Celtic second favourites at 12/1.

Comments welcome.

I have a feeling that there is going to be a flurry of last minute transfers at the end of this window.

    Belfast,
You’ll be to busy cleaning your hoop, Ian forgot to do it for you this morning.
    mashley,
Nowt, he melted away when it became obvious to everyman and his dog that Mashers was definitely not the best owner we’ve ever had, instead of holding his hands up and saying he’d been wrong he just disappeared, came back for a little dig when Rafa got the job but was told to ferk off back under his rock.

Would like to see us sign McCarthy, best CM we’ve been linked with this window IMO

Although the bookies dont always get it right, plenty of players have gone odds on to join teams and it never happens. I remember Bony was as short as 1/2 to join Liverpool whilst at Swansea but obviously went to Man City instead

Cheers lads, not that I wanted him just kind of nearly got him mixed up with Mcarthy and then realised it wasn’t him but still wondered what had happened to the ‘orrible so and so, we were linked with him once but wouldn’t want him anywhere near the place.

McCarthy doesn’t score that often but did against us at Goodison in 2015 when we lost 3-0 to Everton ( well it was at Goodison ) and Colo was sent off.

    He owes us !
Hes’ a robust player and alongside Shelvey that would make a very useful powerhouse in midfileld.

Mr Caulkin is saying we are looking only at loans which would fit with the Townsend and McCarthy interest but nothing is imminent

Sounds decent to me Mcarthy and Toonsend on loan till eos , no real risk to either player as they are not being played or not performing.
Huge upgrade on Colback and Gouffy , lets do it ……..now where did Fraudew hide that line?

According to the Daily Mail’s transfer column, Crystal Palace have held FURTHER talks about the possibility of selling Andros Townsend to Newcastle United.
Reports over the weekend linked the 25-year-old with a return to Tyneside, where he spent around six months after joining from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2016. Since leaving the Magpies upon their relegation from the Premier League, the England international has struggled in south London.
When he left those in black and white, the winger cited his desire to win a place back in the England squad and, while that has proved to be the case, has seriously seen a downturn in form since swapping Tyne for the Thames.
So much so in fact, he was part of an expensively assembled squad that failed to keep Alan Pardew in a job at Selhurst Park.

With that in mind, it’s believed Sam Allardyce’s struggling Eagles have held further discussions about the idea of his quick-fire return to St. James’ Park. As things stand, the Magpies are struggling in wide areas with Christian Atsu away on international duty with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations.

Show that to Moanster he’d been banging the Carr drum for awhile until Rafa got here and can’t bang two drums at once, he’s obviously not Keith Moon.

    Mark Douglas:-

“Ashley has effectively extinguished any talk of short-term, over-the-line purchases like the one Middlesbrough made last season to steady the course towards promotion. Jordan Rhodes – for it was him – is now on his way out, with Boro possibly absorbing a loss on that deal.

“So the only option left is a middle way: loans. And that means Newcastle might have to go to the wire, waiting for teams to decide relatively late in the window whether they’ll allow players to go to get money off their wage bills.”

That Graham Carr list is impressive if true. If true who blocked the signings – Tubbs or Charnley.
Aubameyang – this season 20 goals in 22 games. Dortmund have put a fee on him of £61 million.
We’ll never see him at the Toon in a black and white shirt.

    On the opposite spectrum Townsend.
22 games and 1 goal this season.
Been hauled off in every game since the first week in November. apparently booed off last week.
    Keep him in London.

    Ron Knee,
“For it was him” I don’t get it, does that mean Rafa wanted Rhodes? If that’s the case what was agreed in these weeks of talks that Rafa and Charnley, and I presume Ashley had before Rafa signed up?

It’s hard to fathom, if they’re our “prefered media” partners why are they deliberately stirring the pot, why was that tw@t KB with Ashley on Saturday? what can be gained by letting your media partners tell news like that if it isn’t true and what can be gained if it is?

The chances of us signing anybody if it’s only loans is quite slim. From what I’ve read Everton are looking rid permanently and I can’t see Palace loaning Townsend. Although you could maybe loan them now and buy them in the summer ?

I bet nobody at Middlesbrough gives a ferk about the fee for the Rhodes signing now. The 100 million plus that they banked from promotion would certainly soften the blow.

    Speculate to accumulate Mikey!

    Think McCarthy would complement Shelvey.

McCarthy, Townsend and Cairney, would be great for a promotion push and think could easily take us to premier league level.
