Another day – another rumor – and with Everton keen to sign Sunderland center-back Lamine Kone this month, the Sun are reporting today that Everton are willing to offer Newcastle target James McCarthy as bait in a part exchange deal.
Everton were very keen to sign Kone in the summer and the player even wanted to join the Toffees, but new former Everton manager David Moyes blocked the move – and maybe he could do the same thing again.
James’ McCarthy – offered in part exchange for one
Current Everton manager Ronald Koeman really seems to rate the Ivory Coast center-back, but it depends on whether Moyes wants to let the 27 year-old leave the Stadium of Light half way through the season.
McCarthy has no future at Everton so he is available but it will depend a lot on if he sees his future at a club that has battled relegation for the last several years – every season.
This comes as yesterday the betting on McCarthy moving to Newcastle and Rafa Benitez intensified and Newcastle became the odds-on favorite to sign the Glasgow-born 41 times capped Republic of Ireland International.
What a difference a day makes.
